Clarke: This is a fight over what is right and what is wrong. It is wrong to use this moment to drastically cut the services that the American people need—on top of tariffs, on top of gutting the federal workforce—while people are facing challenges, and then to dismantle healthcare as we know it.

Underwood: This represents the largest cut to healthcare in U.S. history. The largest cut to food assistance in U.S. history. Literally, they are stealing food out of the mouths of hungry kids to pay for a tax cut for billionaires. It is cruel. It is anti-American. And it is just plain wrong.

Olszewski: We’re still learning in real time what this bill even includes. Taking out fees on gun silencers? Making tanning easier—while they’re gutting food benefits and taking away healthcare from people. They’re turning their backs on veterans. It also adds trillions to the deficit.

Donald Trump is putting cruelty over care. No part of Illinois will be untouched by these cuts that impact mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and infectious disease prevention programs. Ultimately, his actions will generate larger expenses in the long run.
