I like how the whole "Mystique abandons Kurt" plot could have been done lovingly like Moses among the reeds but no, she just looks vaguely disgusted and hurls him down a waterfall.
i think the wilson–nolan stuff was so explosive because nolan-heads are susceptible to the delusion that his stuff is much more highbrow than it really is, and bluesky heads are susceptible to the delusion that they are the number one homework do-ers, and wilson threatened both myths simultaneously
One of my Crank Theories of Everything is that the kind of work that survives and becomes part of the canon are stories that feature internal contradictions, because that means they have a rich text that can resonate with people in radically different circumstances and contexts.
While the Fields Medal celebrates the under-40s, the mathematician Joan Birman has, at the age of 99, solved a major open problem in representations of the Braid groups, a topic she has worked on for more than 60 years.

More on the authors coming soon!
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves co-director Jonathan Goldstein says the script for a sequel already exists, but he's not expecting it to see the light of day any time soon. https://bit.ly/4bIsrNA#SDCC
The legendary "walking bed" page from Winsor McCay's "Little Nemo in Slumberland" was published on July 26, 1908. If there’s a Mt. Rushmore for Sunday pages, this one is certainly on it.
Going to become a tech billionaire just so I can name things after the non-sinister parts of Lord of the Rings. Please make hotel reservations through my new hospitality management software, Butterburr.
Je suis si content qu'Hannah Fry soit reconnue au plus haut niveau international. Son travail pour la diffusion est exceptionnel!
Voici sa page dans le Grand Almanach Mathématique!
🇫🇷 Internet, fais mon ton miracle. 🙏
"Who can I neg into signing off on my buddy's AI slop venture? I know: the famously opinionated indie publisher who's spent 30 years hand-drawing his labor-of-love project, which incidentally has already been adapted into real animation" said the most useless turd in your toilet

As a result of the third p̶l̶a̶c̶e̶ v̶i̶c̶t̶o̶r̶y̶ by England we must now r̶e̶m̶o̶v̶e̶ all French d̶e̶r̶i̶v̶e̶d̶ words from the English l̶a̶n̶g̶u̶a̶g̶e̶
Alors je suis allé dans un magasin de réparation, et le prix de la nostalgie est de plus de 240 balles mais je ne regrette rien, même pas mon nouveau look disco-holographique.
So sad to see that Sam Neill died. I sat next to him on a plane from NZ to Sydney. He was so kind, let me hang in the airport lounge w him (!), told me about his animals, and gave recs on what to do in Sydney and drew me a little map of how to get to Bondi. And was so gracious to fans who said hi.
Great news: The newborn has survived the night and is already curiously observing its surroundings. Mom found an empty raft to leave the pup on while she goes out to hunt/feed. But she's not going too far away and keeps peeking out of the water to keep an eye on Churu.
oh my, we went for an evening stroll and this seal made noises to us from the dock. we skirted around her, thinking she was showing some attitude. turns out she was about to give birth. now fifteen minutes later, we're back and she's with her baby and some placenta. and we can't possibly pass 😱
Divisibility by seven (1/3). A number n can be written, in decimal notation, as n=10x+y, where y has one digit and x one digit less than n. Since 5 and 7 are relatively prime, n is divisible by 7 if and only if 5n=50x+5y is.
Divisibility by seven (3/3). Examples. 161->16+5*1=21=3*7, divisible by 7. 1799->179+5*9=224 ->22+5*4=42=6*7, divisible by 7. 94->9+5*4=29=28+1=4*7+1, not divisible by 7.
Divisibility by seven (1/3). A number n can be written, in decimal notation, as n=10x+y, where y has one digit and x one digit less than n. Since 5 and 7 are relatively prime, n is divisible by 7 if and only if 5n=50x+5y is.
Divisibility by seven (2/3). 50=49+1=7*7+1, which means that 50 is congruent to 1 modulo 7. This implies that 50x+5y is divisible by 7 if and only if x+5y is. The rule is thus: take 5 times the last digit and add it to the integer formed by the other digits; check whether the sum is divisible by 7.
1) They think everyone else is doing it, and they don't want to fall behind or feel foolish for putting effort in
2) For many, it IS more about the credential at the end than it is about learning
3) Sometimes even people who have good intentions in the abstract will succumb to laziness in the moment
