Jan. 2010 - SCOTUS rules 5-4 in Citizens United vs. FEC, declaring Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 unconstitutional May 2010 - Brazil passed the “Lei da Ficha Limpa”, barring anyone who’s been impeached or convicted of a crime by a superior court for running for office for 8 years ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

sorry but evaluating a policy like this after three months is insanely stupid. give it 18 months at least.

Ben Schwarz@benschwarz.bsky.social

Australia’s eSafety commissioner buried a report (released Friday afternoon) that shows the under 16 social media ban didn’t tangibly reduce teen social media use, and also resulted in parents tuning out of kids usage. We traded our privacy for no reason. theconversation.com/more-than-80...

the recommended method of protection for 100% of tornadoes and 90% of hurricanes is to shelter in place

The Inglorious O-h-Gee@hyperthermostatic.bsky.social

Abandoned bikes by the tens of thousands are NOT trivial. And as I said there is NO perfect MOT and all ppls needs are different. Ever try to flee a tornado or hurricane on a bike? Of course you haven't.

Edinburgh had a much nicer food & drink scene than I expected. US only I’m rocking with either Asheville or (swallowing pride) Pittsburgh.

seeing a lot of Kansas City in the quotes, had a great time there but if I had to live there full time you might have to take me out back fr.

I’m not his biggest fan but Justice for Steffen man. The angle, curl and wind that it’s coming in with makes this way harder than you think

I've seen enough: this is the greatest goal in MLS history. (Also one of the most chaotically entertaining games in MLS history)

honestly I would’ve caught it and just played dumb thinking it was a deflection. maybe the ref wouldn’t blow for a back pass

There’s actually no reason Raskin shouldn’t do this. Dems should be doing press hits all the time instead of hiding out.

Kevin M. Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social

If you're @raskin.house.gov, how tempting is it to do a press hit today where you tell Pam Bondi this isn't goodbye forever, it's just a farewell until he's running House Judiciary next year and has the chance to subpoena her himself

rode in a BYD Seal a couple times last week in Spain. definitely Tesla-coded (big ass touchscreen, pop out door handles) but much, much nicer finish. €35k for the base model.

Me lembra quando o PSOL proibiu arquitetura hostil. Beleza, é uma merda colocarem pedregulho debaixo de ponte para o morador de rua ter que dormir na chuva. É escroto para caralho Mas o "socialismo e liberdade" escrever essa lei e não algo sobre a garantia de casa para a população de rua é patético

Kevin M. Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social

Once upon a time, you'd go to give a talk at another university and a nice administrator would hand you a W-9 to sign and they'd send you a check in the mail for the honorarium. Now you have to spend a half hour entering data on a Special Contractor Website that was designed in a lab by sadists.

Totally unimportant but it is kinda funny that Jorginho is being referred to as Brazilian when he quite famously plays for Italy

The New York Times@nytimes.com

The Brazilian soccer star Jorginho accused the singer Chappell Roan of sending a security guard to scold his 11-year-old stepdaughter, reducing the child to tears over breakfast at a hotel in São Paulo, Brazil. Roan said she was unaware of the incident.

I’m currently working on the plan we’ll execute tomorrow to introduce our hastily hired and poorly trained fascist shock troops into a job they have no competency for, but don’t worry I found the time to do a couple hours of tv hits about it before I finished it.

BASH: Are ICE agents going to move into American airports starting tomorrow? HOMAN: Yes. I'm currently working on the plan. We'll execute tomorrow. BASH: Are ICE agents even remotely trained to handle security at airports? HOMAN: ICE agents receive high-level training.

a little dusting of Islamophobia for the British palate

Josh@joshalexcairo.bsky.social

The UK has fallen from 1st to 22nd within Europe, on LGBTQ-focused protective legislature. It's narrowly ahead of Albania - a Muslim country - and dead last in western Europe. This is owing to a surge in anti-LGBTQ sentiment that needs FAR more attention than you or your party have given it.

This is a REALLY big deal. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd: “…we are on the ground floor with this day in and day out — looking in the eyes of these folks that, yes, came here inappropriately. But some came here inappropriately only to do better for themselves and their family.”

in middle school we used to ride out to Polk County to bring school supplies and hang with the kids of strawberry pickers. kindergarteners. every single one of them had either a mouthful of stainless steel crowns or totally rotten teeth because their parents didn’t have regular access to toothpaste.

Grady Judd has been Florida’s answer to Joe Arpaio since I was in elementary school. This is like Kissinger declaring Vietnam an illegal invasion

the only reason the jingoism isn’t turned up to 11 right now is that user generated social media limits the real reach propaganda can have. corollary to that… a good chunk of the country has zero idea what’s going on.
