The macOS built-in curl, git, pip, python3, perl, ruby, and openssl all read /etc/ssl/cert.pem, which still has the emSign root, but they don't check revocation like Apple's Secure Transport libraries. This is, uh, a problem. git and pip especially. I added a short-term workaround to this page.

🚨 Six WebPKI Intermediate CAs are compromised. This is bigger than Heartbleed, but a client-side issue. Anything that verifies certificates against public roots, like most TLS clients, is/was affected. Details, live test, patched versions and workarounds at emudhra.we-have-a-problem.com Act now.

I can understand why the features of a supposed AI assistant are compelling. I kinda wanna try it too. But I know too much about how these things work. Do not give a cloud-based agent access to your shit. Especially one from the big tech companies.

It’s time for Danielle Smith to get on Team Canada. Reinstate the ban on American booze. Call off the separatist referendum.  Let’s send a clear message of unity to the United States: Albertans are proud Canadians, and we stand with Team Canada.

as promised, here is my post on AI and ethics. I think unilateral disarmament in the face of powerful new tools is neither wise nor effective. I think those of us in tech have a particular responsibility to engage, participate and build better solutions. charitydotwtf.substack.com/p/make-ai-bo...

Programming isn't going away, it's splitting in two. Jessica Kerr on Still Burning: "If you want to build a bookshelf, that's a craft. But there's also IKEA." The code-crafting got commoditized. Knowing what to build didn't.

It has been a week since the public found out about one of the largest personal data leaks in Canadian history. Calls to *do something* are getting louder. Beyond calling a public inquiry, there are eight (8) things the Government of Alberta could do now to begin restoring trust.👇

1️⃣ Pause any move to add a separatist referendum question to the fall ballot. Albertans should not be asked to vote on the future of the province while basic questions remain unanswered about whether the voters list, petition process, or "leave" campaign have been compromised.
