ET. Must have been with a friend as all I can recall is someone else's mum apologising to my mum for me still being in floods of tears when I got home.

First film you saw at the cinema. The real first one, not the pretend one you tell people! Mine: The Empire Strikes Back, 1980, Wigan. We were near the front and I can still remember how massive the AT-ATs looked, looming over us out of the snow :) Film, year, where, and whatever stuck with you.

I'm getting slightly addicted to Facebook accounts extolling the virtues of Cornwall. Having grown up there it's very entertaining seeing a hundred replies going "ooh" about a shithole like Delabole.

It's possibly the most misunderstood county in the country. Crippling poverty, terrible infrastructure, completely unlivable if you're not independently wealthy. But "ooh, camper vans"

Can't do it now cos they're all closed, but I always wanted to set up a restaurant called 14.99 next to every one of Jamie Oliver's Fifteens. Exactly the same menu but everything a penny cheaper.

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

Selling advertising space for a charity calendar. Clocked on day two it was a scam, spent the rest of the week taking the piss, picked my money up on Friday and dialled a premium rate grot line, leaving the phone off the hook, as I left.

Huge if true.

Another Reform councillor in South London called for the King to be decapitated for being a secret Muslim. Reform say they are taking disciplinary action against a small number of councillors who do not share their values. I believe both would be welcome in Restore www.itv.com/news/2026-10...

Having this morning slagged off people who stick "home made" etc on their menus, this evening I turn my ire towards gaffs that *post their own reviews* with some twee guff about gratitude. Embarrassing. Needy. If you're any good you should expect the bulk of your reviews to be decent.

Absolute cast-iron rule of menu-writing, if a place feels the need to say that menu items are "proper", "real" or "home-made", that place is shit. Making stuff yourself is the baseline, son. No need to shout about it.

Having grown up in Wales, I can testify that if you are actually worried about your culture and history being under threat, the thing to do is write poetry and songs, perform plays, tell stories and organise festivals, not just sit around whining.

Missed opportunity to put Diane Abbott on the twenty-spot just to watch this twat's head explode.

A shadowy network of hedgehogs and owls, operating at the highest levels of the British establishment.

If Max Halley hadn't already beaten me to it, I'd write a book about sandwiches. The lore is deep. Admittedly, as a working chef, the sandwich I eat most often is pan scrapings in crusts in a rush. It's one reason lamb and celeriac stew is on so often, but curry, scouse, ragu, all fine options.

I feel that more of these gonks need to be fully aware that Hitler only had one ball, because the other was in the Albert Hall.

Tom Joscelyn@tomjoscelyn.bsky.social

Curtis Yarvin, a major influence on Vice President JD Vance, is openly fantasizing about Hitler again. Extremism isn’t fringe on the right.

Stunned to learn that Zach Polanski lacks the stones to stand up to his own membership. Whomst etc etc

The head of Jewish Greens has said she might quit the party, amid growing anger among some members at Zack Polanski for his inaction over the party’s policy motion equating Zionism with racism. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

I mean, these are the daft arseholes who all turned up to rallies with bandages on their ears. Bit much to expect them to have self-respect.

Trump could hand me a check for a billion dollars and I’d still vote against him. I don’t understand why so many Americans are happy to be bribed. Don’t you have any pride?

You absolutely don't gotta hand it to Cameron and Osborne, but if the Tories do die then Brexit and austerity are what will have done it, the cheque's just been in the post a while.

Labour was polling a little over 30% when these articles were written. It is genuinely strange that the Conservative Party is not being subjected to the same obituaries by op-ed given its frequent sub-20% polling.
