This is how I feel about offsides in soccer. I don't care about 2 inches of a shoulder in front. If you can't tell in real time, play on
Not every occurance in a sports event should be a "lets check the tape in ultra slow motion" opportunity for litigation. Sometimes just have an experienced, knowledgable guy who was watching it make a determination.

NWSL+ is the #NWSL, so let Jessica know this is unacceptable jberman@nwslsoccer.com “Jordan Angeli needs to be pulled from broadcasts immediately. not only is her bias of being a Summit owner problematic, but her following and endorsement of a hate group XX/XY is disqualifying. remove her now”
wild behavior to have jordan angeli in studio after what happened in portland last night

Also, like 8/10 of my recent reads have been by female authors because @lilithsaintcrow.com @marthawells.com and @tkingfisher.com are fantastic
Ugh 🙄 Lonesome Dove is fine, I think it's really worth noting that the more traditionally masculine characters are pretty miserable. Capt Call who is stoic and driven by duty and who experiences no joy or pleasure in life. His relationships are all fucked because he can't face his own feelings

The effect of transition on bodies is completely absent from this conversation. I wonder if it actually has nothing to do with athletic performance 🤔
well first you should learn about what hormones actually does to bodies in transition. then you can work from there. basically start with a 10% drop in every athletic ability and go from there.

Love that the Spirit players can bring their babies and a caregiver with them when they travel, but I wish this article made it more clear this isn't just a "league policy," it's a contract provision the players negotiated for themselves through their union, the NWSL Players Association.
I've been curious about the balancing act that professional female athletes have to deal with when they become moms, and @emmabaccellieri.bsky.social does a great job explaining how four Washington Spirit players have managed it — with help from their teammates: www.washingtonsun.com/sports/spiri...

Excellent as always.
I wrote about the necessity of persuasion (and its pitfalls), a disappointing statement from a national figure, and how we might disrupt traditional popular exclusionary and bigoted stories of Them, by challenging them with open and expansive stories of Us. www.the-reframe.com/us-and-them/

Excellent thread:
1. Liberals have a bad habit of putting the views and values of Republicans at the center of their attention. We do it without thinking about it, because it's normal. And it's normal, because I think we tacitly accept the argument that our views and values can't be broadly persuasive on their own.

I want to expand on this in a short thread. Fascism sucks. It is also not going away: it is an effectively permanent part of modern representative politics because it is an effectively permanent part of human nature. We have to be prepared to push back against it, basically forever.
That said, I think at this point, we can conclude that fascism is a latent political force in basically every country, to a greater or lesser degree and so you need to be thinking, "what if my country goes fascist? what if a neighboring country does?" and plan for how to avoid or deal with that.
