You can put aside socialist-leftist prescriptions about how dangerous that alliance is, if you would like. But everything I read, across the political spectrum, agrees that these countries are connected. It is just civic maturity to pay attention to Brazil's election.

The Article I branch should act to curb lawless behavior and abuses of executive branch authority

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social

Around 175 House Dems just called on Trump's DOJ and DHS to end "weaponization of law enforcement" against Rep Ilhan Omar. The letter is signed by numerous ranking committee Dems, showing depth of support for Omar in leadership and signaling how Dem House will act. newrepublic.com/article/2171...

What's striking to me are the rules of engagement and the methodology of action here, which more or less is predicated on burying liberal delusions about "debate" or the "marketplace of ideas". The rules were ultimately very simple: amplify your own message and suppress your opponent's.

In 2028 I will be a single issue voter on preserving democracy. If you think you can defend democracy and sell out the least privileged among us you are either a fool or a coward. How could you possibly be trusted?

We don't fight fascism by agreeing with fascists that some of us don't deserve rights. The group saying "don't sacrifice us for illusory temporary gain" aren't the ones being divisive. If the Democratic Party and candidates don't want us to be divided, then they shouldn't divide us!

the actual American centrist compromise position is β€œtax the billionaires to fund the military” and that’s like…considered progressive

I love how the broadcasters are giving Hunter MacDonald his flowers for starting everything off with his good clean hit. Doesn't get on the score sheet but we aren't forgetting about his contribution either.

"But the AI CEOs are hucksters--" IT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER. They're not the only ones developing this technology! You think Sam Altman personally controls AI? much of this shit is open source and being spun up by people you've never heard of (and never will) and it can do shit like this!

I also think this is a very powerful graph. Most people don't know it, but the US is a *very* low-tax country. We tax below average and we spend below average, among rich nations. Fixing our fiscal situation entirely through taxes would still leave us *very* low tax. bsky.app/profile/bren...

A big reason why people w/ low incomes don’t share in our prosperity is that we underinvest in economic security programs like unemployment insurance, paid leave, housing, and other benefits. We spend FAR LESS on these programs than our peers do.

Hello! I'd like to write a story about how fans are supporting Jalen Hurts in his recovery. If you or someone you know has sent a card/letter/gift to him, and would be willing to share why, I'd love to talk! I can be reached at acoffey@inquirer.com or in DMs. Thanks as always☺️

The machines aren't being rigged for Blackburn, that's BlueAnon nonsense. But touchscreens are bad b/c they can do stuff like this inadvertently, either touchscreen error or clumsy voter error. Scantron-style is most common and the best. Low tech, more reliable, and people prefer hand-marking paper.

Day 2 of people being big mad at Mike Masnick for suggesting that maybe the First Amendment should apply even to companies we don't like. I would suggest that if you're mad at Meta it's the power imbalance that they maintain that you don't like not the ability for private companies to do a thing.

"Arresting decline is a generational task" is both a dire warning and a grand opportunity. We need to envision a new status quo moving forward and not be afraid of opportunities for genuine reform to our democracy.

Beau Baumann 🍎@beaubaumann.bsky.social

I think the state is degrading faster than people realize. People who place their hopes in 2028 need to set their expectations around a state that is greatly diminished and set on a downward trajectory. Arresting the decline is itself a generational task.

There's a difference between that and a certain kind of corporate culture that pursues "efficiencies" with the express goal of eliminating people's jobs. That's what people are afraid of. And they're choosing to blame the technology for doing it to them. I get it. But I still think it's unhelpful.

Court expansion is the baseline of reform, not the end goal of reform.

Barred and Boujee aka Madiba Dennie@audrelawdamercy.blacksky.app

I wanna quibble a bit with the premise of question 4: 'why court expansion over alternatives' suggests an either/or, but I want a whole suite of reforms But also, court expansion is the most urgent and necessary reform bc it's the clearcut constitutional way to immediately stop the bleeding

Ok I'm bored at the kiddos soccer practice and thinking about this now: do the major Chinese models have this same political project? I'm not talking about biases, but rather an over arching political project behind them in the same way the Silicon Valley techno fascists are behind frontier labs

The problem with AI is that it's a political project masking as a technical solution

For instance I think that you can make a real argument that we should be using cheaper Chinese models that chip away at the dominance of OpenAI Anthropic and the rest of the American companies. But are we just trading one evil for the same thing in a new color?

Can’t Allow Elon Musk the Power to Intervene in Wars No individual should be able to disrupt military ops like Musk did with Ukraine’s. I wrote that when he did it in 2023. Was told the problem was contract rules. Nope. Happened again. The problem is too much power, esp for an enemy of democracy.

thedailybeast.comThe U.S. Government Can’t Allow Elon Musk the Power to Intervene in WarsThe billionaire’s interference in Ukrainian military operations shows he’s a national security risk. No private citizen should have that much power.

The 2026 Flyers had 3 parts to their season: the middling (Oct -Dec), the BAD (Jan-Feb), the Unsustainable (post Olympics). This is why it's so hard to pin down who they really are!

Chris@chrispfoley.bsky.social

The playoff push stretch was an anomaly. They hadn't shown the capacity to be that team prior, nor sustain it into the playoffs and the following season and so on. It's a young team in a rebuild. This is what the org has to endure. Briere 100% meant what he said when he was talking about a potential

I like the idea behind this post so much I reposted it on two different social networks. We don't need a one size fits everyone social media.

The Regime started with a target they assume Democrats and mainstream elites wouldn't defend. That's always the strategy. But if they can come for Ilhan Omar, they can come for you too. Count on it.

Brandon Friedman@brandonfriedman.bsky.social

When a progressive or DSA member launches a primary campaign against a sitting House Democrat, Hakeem Jeffries and other leaders go nuclear to defend that sitting member. But what if Republicans threaten a sitting Democrat with arrest after raiding her home? Same vigor and intensity, I'm sure, no?

Interesting thought experiment in Flyers land: if Tocchet and York "get into it" and things get ugly does the team side with the player again and fire a second coach bc of York?

Briere has been saying for years that the players will dictate and then literally warned about talking a brief step back. I don't think he was contemplating this but it sure seems clear that unless like Rick Tocchet does something truly heinous, he will be here longer than some players.
