Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who spared a thought for my country today, who amplified information about the coup d’état attempt, and worried about Brazil’s democratic future—the world’s democratic future. We won! Women won! The Amazon won! Young people won! Democracy won! Hope won!

This is legit how a lot of people are going to become lifelong Democratic voters and why contesting for attention on streaming and video is so important. People who are up for grabs aren’t reading news sites every day.

It rained so hard last night. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen such an intense thunderstorm in just pitch blackness. Went out to feed the livestock this morning and the entire valley is covered in mist—watched the fog swallow the nearest treeline as I fed the goats New Mexico, I love ya

lol. RAGBRAI has over 20,000 bike riders peddling 400 miles every year—and it is one of the biggest events in the entire state bringing in millions in tourism and economic stimulus to small towns. Also, we have 11 bikes. 🚲 We ride bikes in Iowa, sir.

US garment workers helped pioneer multi-ethnic labor unions, which united people across racial, religious, gender, linguistic, and cultural divides. Also native-born citizens and immigrants. I think about that sometimes when I see people suggest such divides are unbridgeable.

I see a lot of folks breathlessly discussing fair use in the QTs, but as a budding documentary filmmaker myself, what I’m looking at here is a documentarian agreed to a certain set of boundaries in order to film, and then surreptitiously stole additional footage he didn’t have permission to air

This post is unavailable.

Going off the info here, Is it really fair use if the footage he stole was not published publicly? Beyond that, I’d hope that documentarians adhere to at least some code of ethics here. Yes, it may look different than a journalist’s, for example, but if you say you’re gonna do something, do it.

Could there not have been a conversation about the additional footage? Could have made the case that this footage was important to the overall story, done negotiations with the subjects, made a case for including impact funding in the budget for those subjects, and so on

My one aunt is from the Chicago burbs, the other from the South side, so naturally they spent the cash to get Italian beef and bread shipped in from Chicago And lemme tell ya, this is healing something in me

Wondering if there’s an underlying anxiety about elder folks realizing there’s no safety net in their old age, and becoming concerned that they’ll fall through the cracks if family members won’t take care of them
