I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Things that would actually help is reducing the cost of living and helping small local businesses instead of allowing giant corporations from having monopolies and causing them to go out of business. There are some medical stuff I fully can't get in the EU because the shops don't exist anymore

The EU will from 1 November slap a €2 handling fee on packages from outside the 27-nation bloc in a bid to curb the influx from China rte.ie/b/1596837

gotta say hats off to all the writers pretending to do profiles of Silicon Valley CEOs just so they can add that one same paragraph, every single time, that demonstrates they're all insane freaks who do not know or like their own kids.

cool, cool

These protests and today's election wins prove my point that the idea that young people have no attention span, are lazy, and have no media literacy is absolute bullshit. They understand more than us and they're out there changing the world while everyone one else sits on their asses

I need to stare into the distance for five minutes after reading this

Never forget FF and FG allowed & paid for the abuses which happened in the Mother and Baby homes, magdalene laundries, industrial schools, & the Christian Brothers schools. It was considered 'state' and welfare and education. They let the RCC move abusers. #spéirgorm #FFGFailures

This feels like the only question of any relevance to be posed to politicians this weekend. You either think touching kids without their consent is inappropriate, or you don't - and if you don't, you shouldn't be let anywhere near them. We've been here before, and we're not going back. #speirgorm

Funny how no one's mentioning that the violence is coming from the police. The protesters targeted infrastructure, the police targeted human beings. Now there'll be 70,000 more adults enacting violence on young people and teens

RTÉ News@news.rte.ie

France will deploy about 70,000 police nationwide as it braces for new protests after some of the worst urban violence in years erupted on the sidelines of demonstrations a week ago

Very proud to announce I am featured in and co-edited the upcoming Rising Stars Anthology along with some wonderful writers and friends! I have a wee Gaeilge poem in it. (It is not perfect Gaeilge but I think it's more important to write and speak in bad Gaeilge than to not write or speak it at all)

I am begging the members of this government to get off X and do their jobs instead of caving to culture war bullshit time and again

Simon McGarr@tupped.bsky.social

The distinction being drawn by the Government members is that a hug is non-sexual and so you don't need consent. I simply don't agree and this is a very bad assertion of government policy over children. We had a whole referendum where the rights of children were affirmed www.rte.ie/news/2026/10...

From Beth Dobbin’s letter: “To get the welfare bill down, I believe you need to fund research into this spiralling illness [ME/CFS] and help us all get our lives back." Frustrating to think how little has changed since I made this point in a letter to The Times 20 years ago:

Hysterical and predictable reaction to an advert on Liveline and earlier in the Dáil from the usual suspects. Text DRCC to 50300 to donate to DRCC. They really do fantastic work!

Sixty years, tomorrow. They gave the man in charge a knighthood. They made the local community pay for the remembrance garden. No-one held to account. I always think of the dinner lady, Nansi, who shielded five kids with her body and died in the process but they all lived. #Aberfan

It also makes me deeply uncomfortable that he uses twitter, a csam generator. Both point to the same giant red flag

Gary Gannon TD@garygannontd.bsky.social

It makes me deeply uncomfortable that the Minister for Justice has used his Twitter account to create an online pile on of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre. It also appears to me a dangerous precedent that this minister, and his dept. have instructed the DRCC to remove content that he disapproved of.

The pigeons that reside at Heuston Station break my heart. Their poor little feet riddled with bumblefoot and stringfoot, kids running after them to frighten them, and grown adults literally kicking them to move them. They don't have it easy at all and it's genuinely upsetting 😩 #speirgorm

I think it's great to portray consent as it is - a complex conversation that appears in a million forms between a million combinations of people. Practicing boundaries between family members who love and respect you is exactly the training kids need to bring that lesson out into the wider world.

One of the reasons our gov are so out of touch is because they're still on twitter and don't seem to realise it's 90% bots and not the actual opinions of the Irish people. Or maybe that's giving them too much credit and they're just assholes...

I truly can't recall an issue where the government have so openly worked against the will of the Irish people. Time and again, polls have shown this is a fringe position in Ireland and yet FFG are fighting tooth and nail for it. This represents a fundamental change to how we identify as a country.
