NATO lecturer Declan Power has an unintentionally revealing piece on Triple Lock in Indo today. He literally quotes the section of the UN Charter which makes clear that regional enforcement without UN endorsement is illegal under international law. He shrugs & moves on. #TripleLock #SpéirGhorm

Subscriber only, unfortunately. I know everyone has to be paid. I just wish this continuing, recurring saga of unforgivable neglect of children was in our daily media feed and our social discourse, as much as manufactured stories from culture warriors with an agenda and almost limitless budget.

Had a really bad dream where the Minister for Justice, in the name of the government, enabled a pile-on of a rape crisis centre because of a campaign to raise awareness of consent for children.

While we were discussing how to end perverse polluter advertising that fuels climate chaos, the UK's Energy Minister Miatta Fahnbulleh was on BBC News promoting Shell and the Jackdaw gasfield approval by wearing a jacket adorned with a Shell logo h/t @lindaaspey.bsky.social

They are both correct. I've been working on this issue professionally (not at DRCC) since around 2018 and the job is tough but simple: you have to communicate the facts as evidenced by mountains of studies and bitter experience. Your job is not to reflect government policy.

Extraordinary line from Garda management here It's beyond their ability to conceive that motorist behaviour might be a driver of increasing road deaths... (poor enforcement is unspeakable, of course) Glad to see the safety of our children is in such dynamic & inspired hands

I listened to a podcast which said that most of the backlash to that 'consent' ad was on Twitter and UK TV. This was UK TV earlier this week, so no wonder they lapped it up. They are cooked. UK media are frothing at the mouth for this kinda stuff. Everyone involved in this should be embarrassed.

We all ready for whatever wild, ignorant shite our elected, and unelected representatives will spout today? Maybe one of em will advocate for killing seal pups or something.

Out of touch, car-centric victim-blaming nonsense. It's attitudes like this at the top that's the cause of rising road deaths and serious injuries.

I'm legitimately worried about the back-sliding on rights that we're seeing across the Irish political establishment. Whether or not you get behind my brand of politics, I strongly encourage you to get behind someone. We need united and unflinching resolve on rights-based issues.

I’m in my late 50s. I’m really glad we’re having discussions around consent. I don’t think resistance to it is about age. And of course it isn’t just about sex: if you don’t want me to boop your nose, I’ll be sure not to boop your nose Imagine continuing to boop…To make *yourself* comfortable?

Tis really a week of stupid statements itn't it.

Just a little friendly reminder that rejection of the bodily autonomy of others is a key tenet of far-right politics, and that it's no coincidence that I've been calling him Jimmy Goebbels for the last six months or more. He's been telling us who he is for a loooooong time now.

One of the reasons our gov are so out of touch is because they're still on twitter and don't seem to realise it's 90% bots and not the actual opinions of the Irish people. Or maybe that's giving them too much credit and they're just assholes...
