#samandmax20th In episode 3 of Sam & Max Season One, the Freelance Police encounter a poker player named Leonard Steakcharmer. Funny thing, though — he really looks like this other guy named Boris Krinkle. (Share this thread for a chance to win a game key!)

is the game bad? ditch it is a boss stressing you out? take a break unless the whole vibe of your stream is literally intended suffering with bad games (know your limits still) you can just stop It's your stream, it's your rules, if you wanna stop/move on you can just do that

Melzinoff (coms open) reposted

I've been saying this on streams & I want other streamers to adopt this too You don't have to finish a game/part of a game if you're having a bad time, it's good to know when to straight up "hit da bricks" & move on (Exceptions/nuance exist of course but I have 300 characters to work with here)

"dont worry, we didn't use LLMs for real art, like writing, or graphics, or sound, we only used it for dumb gross useless basic shit like programming" always the funnest thing to read as a programmer, as someone whose whole career is based on code, whose handwritten library changed the industry etc

This game wouldn't be possible without the help of Mina (co-author & programmer), Jem (assistant CG artist) and Smalrainbow (music)! bsky.app/profile/mins...

Mina Nerva@minska.bsky.social

wrote a vn with my bestie, here's a trailer (music by @25kittens.angel.place, additional CGs by @jemini77.bsky.social)

imagine we genie wish a flag onto mars that didn't improve space-fairing, or engineering, or culture or economics and noone was employed and no humans grew it takes a very special kind of ignorance to think the flag is the sole point the flag itself is just symbolic of the work

it really does feel like they just got away with unprecedented amount of theft of expertise, and are now profiting off of it while replacing the professional opportunities for the very crafts and humans it trained on I never thought I would see the concept of expertise get so devalued

my entire life trajectory was oriented towards "being good at things", I sacrificed quite a lot to get where I am today, and now society has deemed expertise not very valuable anymore and for what little remains, AI/people using AI will siphon it out of you the very moment they smell it in the air

automation is supposed to target things people within any given craft consider rote and tedious, things that have almost no creative agency but when you automate things those within the craft love doing, that help us grow as artists/thinkers/designers, you're removing humanity from the craft

Like, that's really what that kind of culture is. It's incel culture with a trans coat of paint. No, you're not blackpilled or being realistic. You have untreated mental illness that you're making worse with that bullshit.

Stay off of 4tran forums and places that unironically use terms like passoid or sneedhon. You're only rotting your brain. You're not gonna find happiness in the trans equivalent of incel spaces.

Meanwhile LLMs are so fast at generating code that the loop is broken. I specify what I want to do, then a few seconds later I'm left with a hundred lines of code to review. I feel a lot more passive as a result, and I think overall quality suffers. I'm railroaded towards generic solutions.

That loop, especially of finding that a particular approach is leading to a lot of friction writing more stuff on top leading to figuring out a different abstraction that then leads to new ideas is exactly what I love about programming. And you're right, LLMs completely take that loop away from you.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer was made by a core team of 75 people. "What we wanted to do was keep that core small, smaller than perhaps you might have done in the past, and scale capacity and capability with what we call distributed development." https://bit.ly/4hT02qg

When someone asks you to drop a topic three times in a row and you still play devil's advocate, then you're not playing anymore, you are actively helping that argument by pushing and hurting that person away.

Don't let billionaires convince you slop is the future. They're used to managing & directing, not making things themselves. Of course they can't see the difference. They don't understand your love for the craft. Keep making personal, beautiful games. You've got my support 💖

Melzinoff (coms open) reposted

Why do we keep on doing this? Praising a 'small core team' for a game with 1100+ people in the credits is incredibly misleading. This PR narrative hurts, hides the massive shadow workforce of outsourced developers and testers, and sets impossible standards for actual indie teams.
