My fellow US satirists, now is the time to do your thing. Self-censoring is “obeying in advance.” Forget your career—draw blood Tear down these crooks & fools Whether you’re writing for Colbert or doing one night in some black box over a bowling alley, NOW is the time to LET IT RIP!!!!

How racist and desperate do you have to be to look at this and say, “Got ‘em!”?

The White House put an AI video of Hillary, Chuck, Hakeem, Kamala, and Ilan jamming out to The Gap Band’s “Outstanding” like a Tiny Desk concert and described Democrats as “washed up,” but damn they never looked cooler. Total self-own.

Man, I shoulda been there!

I don't know that there is a definitive line to cross that makes you say, "I live in a police state now" but when masked gunmen can routinely brutalize the public, citizen or immigrant alike, with impunity, you have reached that point.

Kavanaugh stops in action: ICE tackled a non-verbal kid near his school, left him with injuries requiring surgery, and then left the scene when they realized he wasn't the person they were looking for www.independent.com/2026/10/23/i...

None of us should forget this. Meta should be subjected to corporate death penalty and permanently broken up into small pieces.

NEWS --> Dems are planning novel ways to wield power of the purse against Trump's corrupt prosecutions of critics like Ilhan Omar if they win House. Reps Pramila Jayapal and Jamie Raskin tell me a range of aggressive tactics will be deployed. Details in my new piece: newrepublic.com/article/2171...

Over 2,000 alumni from Vivek’s all-boys catholic high school in Cincinnati have signed and circulated a petition demanding that he pull the ad and issue a public apology for “ignoring the moral responsibilities” of his Jesuit education. I think he’s pretty cooked.

If still debating whether Donald Trump or Elon Musk willfully crippled Ukraine's missile defense, helping to slay innocent civilians, you are a rube. If the U.S. President had no role, then an oligarch governs national security. If not, the U.S. President serves Russia. Both answers are mortifying.

Please don’t judge disabled people for staying in abusive relationships. You can’t imagine the terror of being financially and/or physically dependent on someone for survival. There’s no one to step in and rescue us. This is why disabled people have higher rates of abuse. We can’t escape.

detective who hates that he has to be the postmodern, deconstructive detective who has to repeatedly remind the audience that detective tropes are corrosive instead of the guy who gets to drink scotch and smoke big cigars and pursue dames without examining how he fits in the larger social context

It's not fair to judge Tulsi when she says stuff like this. It's probably just what her cult leader thinks.

This is such a stupid thing to say. Because if it were true, we wouldn't need a Constitution and Bill of Rights written by humans. And every country would have had the same Constitution and Bill of Rights from the beginning of time.

As someone who was deathly ill with a mystery illness from 21-42 -- whose family still thinks he's crazy -- this is a good thread. "Your numbers are normal" is devastating. I remember praying for any diagnosis, so I could do something other than watch my young self drift towards death.

Pay attention to the ableism being thrown around with respect to Christina Applegate finding out she doesn’t have MS. People acting like it’s a relief or a blessing. Like she’s “better off now”. She’s still sick. She’s just sick without answers. I guarantee it’s not a “relief” for her.

More like this will save our country. And is perhaps the only thing that can.

There is no bottom for the Republican Party. It is a force for evil I’ve watched for my entire adult life (I’m almost 49). This is why I can’t stand calls for bipartisanship or demonstrations of the old boys and girls club. They’re fucking monsters who ruin the very fabric of society.

Disorientation is precisely what makes Apocalypse Now genius. It's not *a movie about Vietnam* like Platoon. Watching it in the theaters in '79, two things were clear: it was a generational expression; and sensory alteration/overload was the point. "Who's in charge here, soldier?" "Ain't YOU?"

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

I'm pretty sure the canonically correct answer to this is Apocalypse Now, which stitches together some of the greatest scenes and actors ever filmed into a total jumbled mess

Fucked up & boozy, bleary, trying to do the right thing & increasingly unclear what that even IS -- Willard is the US in Vietnam. He comes in certain, following the older generation. Then these experiences happen, one on top of the other, and he is broken and and sad and...maybe not the good guy?

While voting in Tennessee, this happened to Dolly Parton's sister. Listen up, y'all. Take as long as you need to and make damn fucking sure your vote is cast correctly.

I thought Craig was a splendid Bond (this coming from a Connery fan), but his films were marred by the modern screenwriting fetish for backstory & psychology. "What makes James Bond tick" is that...he's James Bond. If we wanted a character grounded in reality, Harry Palmer would be the franchise.
