I am actively recruiting participants for my PhD, check out the blogpost to learn more (in ASL & English) 🤗

Language on the Move@languageonthemove.bsky.social

We are looking for adult research participants who grew up hearing with migrant Deaf parents. Can you help us by sharing the recruitment ad? Research participation is fun and easy and mostly involves online interviews with @empacheco.bsky.social languageonthemove.com/hearing-chil...

Grindr has long been an absolute threat to the LGBT+ community and their entire leadership is weak. Remember when they sold to a Chinese company, along with all their data including PHI?

Ronan Farrow@ronanfarrow.bsky.social

Grindr is training its AI on your photos, your age, and your taps by default, without asking. This video shows where the app buried the off switch. The stakes are high on an app like Grindr. Numerous countries criminalize same-sex relations, so being outed through your data can be dangerous.

tech.yahoo.com/ai/apple-int... I think (?) the correct way to read this and other stuff about openAI making devices is more evidence that they're feeling investor pressure to stop fucking around and become apple or google already

Holy shit.

In each time this has happened, I believe there has been changes made to allow it happen so this seems unnecessary?

I don’t have the words to express the feelings I am having from this. I also don’t think I’ve ever experienced these feelings before.

It's great to see tailoring accommodate such extreme movement today. This level of tailoring was a bit more common in the past, as you can see in old films featuring Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly, but many modern suits will lift off the wearer's neck even when they're just walking.

A recent survey found that 92% of U.S. adults have delayed or avoided medical care due to high costs. Meanwhile, a new study from Yale estimates that Medicare for All would save over 114,000 lives and $1 trillion a year. If this country was truly “pro-life,” we would have universal healthcare.

I’m disgusted I’m bringing AI into my music production workflow. However having access to a full “choir” to test out something I never could previously produce is amazing. Being a hobby of mine this is kinda neat to experiment. I can already see EDM being the AI slop genre however.

9/11 ANOTHER WORLD WAS POSSIBLE We could have responded by putting the terrorists on trial—as the overwhelming majority of our NATO allies’ population (and the rest of the world) wanted. Instead, we responded with war—just what the terrorists wanted. It made them warriors, not criminals.

It can’t be always on, if it’s opt-in.

Watching this Apple event tout how iPhones will soon be able to record ambient audio/conversations and transcribe "high level notes" for you. It's billed as private and end-to-end encrypted, but I think the bigger harm is the normalization of always-listening devices. It's creepy and not normal.

Let’s start with those that are hard of hearing or deaf. Great feature, and Apple presented this RIGHT AFTER announcing this exact situation. Or my ADHD ass that even when jaw grinding on Adderall still drifts off in meetings and conversations.

I was working on a fork when Claude said it discovered a vulnerability in how arrays were handled. Tested twice and confirmed. Asked ChatGPT about it and now I’m on some monitored list of users I can’t get off of. “Give me a list of photography spots that are not Instagram locations” gives me

There is something kind of bleakly funny about how much time and ink was spilled about how we'd moved past the GWOT and Forever Wars and come to terms with our mistakes and entered a new phase of politics and then every time a Muslim shows appears on TV the media snaps back to 2003 instantly.

(This skeet is reserved for a real barn burner insult against a politician who will never see it but my followers will like it)
