Barely have time to go to National Trust places these days but remain a member in part to vote in the AGM and keep the Restore Trust arses out. VOTE! VOTE!

It's that time of the year again when the @nationaltrust.org.uk membership elects new Council members. It's vital that all NT members use their vote (online) to keep the Restore Trust Reform-adjacent entryists off the Council & away from any decision making. Vote online by 30th October - Friday.

It looks like the NT has made the process very easy by using a QR code on the front of the AGM booklet. I"m not going to name the Restore Trust candidates, but you can see who they are on the restore trust website. At least two have stood previously and failed to get elected.

Big day today for ending centuries of secrecy about who owns our land! A new government consultation will propose revealing who owns the vast majority of England and Wales. To get this over the line, I’ll need your help to send in supportive evidence! www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

Still being broadcast live uninterrupted by the GBBC news.

By all accounts this is what most of the recent Reform media events have looked like. Bubble well and truly burst

and people still think Russia wasn't influencing UK politics in the run up to the Brexit referendum? come on.

Ah ensign Chekov. 😢

George Takei@georgetakei.bsky.social

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

It used to be that the BBC news set its coverage by what was on the Daily Mail front page. Now it's just following whatever GB News is covering.

Alex Andreou@sturdyalex.bsky.social

BBC News just interrupted its coverage to go, live, to Nigel Farage - a man with no contitutional standing in our setup - responding to the budget - a document which nobody has seen yet. WHY

💯The case for democracy is not that voters are always right, or wise, or good. It's that they can correct their mistakes. That's why it's so dangerous to have billionaires controlling the media or regulating the flow of information. It shuts down the immune system of democracy.

Rob Ford@robfordmancs.bsky.social

I was having conversations with journalists just a few months ago about whether democracy was doomed. Look at this year: Orban defeated. Vukic defeated. Bolsonaro Jr defeated. Trump heading to likely defeat in midterms. That’s the beauty of democracy. Voters can respond. Don’t count it out yet.

Leaving aside the legal niceties of what constitutes "reasonable force" or "fair protection", who is the villain in this AI-slop image that the Restore Britain fascists have created? He has a flat cap & a gilet on, & appears to be wielding a patio weeder. Is he a murderous landscape gardener?

First Orban, now Vučić. Both fundamentally undone by rank corruption of their regimes. Which is so often the reality of the authoritarian right in power. Really worth paying heed to in Western Europe right now

Interesting article in the new @britishwildlife.bsky.social magazine about gardens & wildlife. Unless I missed it, there wasn’t a single mention of gardeners’ use of peat. Surely this is one of the most important issues for wildlife-friendly gardening; not destroying a globally important habitat?

Reform bubble hasn't so much burst as has been squashed under the weight of sleaze, sleaze, more sleaze, misogyny, sleaze and racism.

Two major polls today putting Labour back into the thirties. This one puts Reform firmly in third place and would give Labour a majority of around 134

The new Reform newspaper is edited by (drumroll) Mick Hume. He of the Revolutionary Communist Party/Living Marxism/Spiked brigade.

An ancient fence panel also met its Ragnarok but I didn’t think it merited a photo. I lashed it together with bits of old clothes line and duck tape.

In some ways the coming together of the RCP/Living Marxism/Spiked brigade, with Reform, does remove potential confusion. Or should do. This far-right/right libertarian/contrarian nexus is Glasman’s territory anyway, and one of the others, Lady Malalieu, is chair of the Countryside Alliance.
