Yeah that originally read to me like "the publisher wanted us to use AI but we refused. They canceled the game because we wouldn't let people get fired" but instead it was "we couldn't use AI to do a bunch of useless tweaking so I let the money run out instead of compromising" fuck off dude!!!

Free newsletter: In July, Apollo Economist Torsten Slok said that "AI better work out, or we have a problem." Facing ever-growing high-interest debt, negative-EBITDA AI labs and $200bn+ in warehoused GPUs, that's exactly what the AI industry has. www.wheresyoured.at/ai-had-bette...

Even if you *are* real, if you are pitching me with ChatGPT, I am not interested.
I know one of us says this basically every day, but if you are an actual podcaster/bookstore/book club organizer... do not use chatGPT to write your pitch. We will delete it. We see 7-371 of them a day and we can spot them by the 5th word. It doesn't matter if you're real. We'll delete it.

The problem isn't that we just don't understand how enlightened your decision is. We understand it fine. You've surrendered to the "AI is inevitable and all we can do mitigate it" lies of the AI lobby. You can't explain your way out of this. You need to reverse your announcement today.

I want to be explicit that Mark Zuckerberg, on the softest of softball podcasts, admitted he invested all this capex without really knowing whether any of it would work, shortly after his tech guy said that he had been repeatedly told “hey this better fucking work” by the CFO at an offsite
This is the shit you love to hear just as everybody is feeling extremely anxious about the opaque ROI of AI and specifically AI capex in Meta’s case. You want a story where your CFO says “it will be really bad if you’re wrong about this”

Anybody who is constantly trying to find a middle ground between personal benefit on the one hand and horrendous ethical and environmental violations on the other while a financial crisis bubbles in the background, is a fence sitter at best. Calling them critical is a ridiculous statement

Yes, because it is really important to smoke, try heroin, download CSAM (!!!), or burn plastic, etc etc to be able to discuss the dangers and harms of those activities.
One of the things that really shines through in these AI debates is how many of the antis refuse to actually use or touch the thing they're trying to criticize, which leads to claims that have this religious tenor and bear no resemblance whatsoever to real-world manifestations of AI.
