The BBC weather man after Newsnight is wearing a (rather tight) T shirt although the women still seem to wear fairly formal (and sometimes bodycon) dresses. Why are women maintaining sartorial standards while men appear to have stepped out of the bar for a moment?

Not sure why Europe hasn't upped the pressure on Putin by saying that Russia's frozen assets will be used to fund Ukraine in stages until a ceasefire holds. Yes there are legal problems, but European security surely trumps them.

New post from @ldfreedman.bsky.social Trump has again intervened in the Ukraine war on the wrong side. How much difference is it making? What can Europe and Ukraine do to counteract? samf.substack.com/p/ukraine-wi...

In England, no women aged 20 to 24 died of cervical cancer between 2020 and 2024, according to a study published in The Lancet. Researchers link it to the HPV vaccine.

The reason for offering Andy Haldane a job in No 10 or 11 was clearly to keep him from broadcastinga constant running commentary on what the government is or should be doing. ..

The more that members of the Trump administration talk, the more it sounds as if Plan A to stop the war was to coerce Ukraine into capitulation and Plan B was to keep repeating Plan A until it worked. When it became apparent that wasn't going to happen, they were out of ideas.

Feel a lot of pride about the way Britain has responded to Trump's attacks on Ukraine, repeatedly launching big symbolic demonstrations of solidarity when things are at their most tenuous.

Why on earth does this BBC piece on Burnham telling an interviewer the UK security services confirmed Russian interference in the Brexit referendum require a response from a pro Brexit pressure group? It's literally our Prime Minister telling us about election security. It's nothing to do with them.

Dear tv and radio producers. Thankyou for the invitation. But, no, I do not want to appear on your show to defend the idea that I am English, after 50 years of living and working here, because the increasingly feral right want to turn this into a "debate" and you cannot see how you're being played

Is this real? If so, Trump has struck a deal for Russian oil. If this goes ahead, the US will be funding Russia’s war machine as it murders children, tortures, rapes and murders Ukrainian people as part of its genocidal war

Trump's foreign policy is not isolationist. On the contrary, his ideologues want to build an international empire run by far-right political movements who serve American crypto, mineral and tech companies, many with links to the president. Read more here: www.theatlantic.com/magazine/202...

theatlantic.comEmpire of GriftFar-right ideologues have transformed American foreign policy into a tool of private gain and antidemocratic reaction.

Important, alarming and depressing stuff. But true.

Russia has bombed a school basically every single day this week, so for those people who say "if this was happening in Ukraine, it would be on the front pages every day", how many times have you seen that on the front page of even one of your national newspapers this week? Zero.

I’m off to gig at Camden School for Girls! We’re fundraising to help save Ancient Greek there - they’re an amazing example of classical education in the state sector. If you’d like to help, I’ll put the donation link below (and in my bio). And look - a good omen! 💛

I wouldn’t be where I am without the wonderful Greek provision at Camden School For Girls. I was so lucky it was my local school, and it’s so so important we keep these pathways open for state school kids. Please consider flinging a few quid their way of you can

BIG NEWS for any pedestrians fuming at e-bike riders Lime have permanently banned a rider caught cycling on the pavement. City of London police says:

Whispers: There isn’t a “right” to work from home. Employers decide how many people they need to run their business and where they want to hire them. Good employers should be sensible and considerate about accommodating their workers’ needs where practical. Dictating where you work is not a right.

“The trouble with you, Spode, is that just because you have succeeded in inducing a handful of half-wits to disfigure the London scene by going about in black shorts, you think you’re someone. You hear them shouting “Heil, Spode!” and you imagine it is the Voice of the People.” Bertie Wooster

Really struggling with Pakistan's U19 cricket team coaches having to confirm their particulars with a Reform councillor to get him to disperse the mob gathered outside their hotel. We're in a very bad place and we're doing nothing about it.

Don’t think Emma Barnett and Kemi Badenoch shouting at each other is adding to the sum of human knowledge (although Kemi, while annoying, is winning by miles). Emma B just sounds shrill and ineffective. BBC Today

Canadian PM Mark Carney: I’ve met Putin in the past, multiple times. He only understands strength and directness. And the message would be simple: get out of Ukraine, give back all of Ukraine to Ukraine, end this war, which is killing more than 30,000 of your people every single month.
