Maxis fucking prints money. They do it cheap and they crank out packs and updates on the regular, and Sims fans devour them. They are the proverbial cash cow. So why lay those people off when you're trying to cover an $18 billion buyout debt? This is why leveraged buyouts should be illegal.

notebookcheck.netEA closing BioWare and cancelling Mass Effect 5 wasn't the only hit: Another 350 cuts landed on Respawn, Motive, and MaxisThe $55 billion buyout finally has a body count. Ironically, the studio that defined the modern RPG is the first to go, but its not the only victim.

A character can be cool, capable, funny, smart, attractive, whatever., and that's nice. But if you want me to hold them in my heart forever, make me think: What are my little dipshits up to NOW? The most recent book to make me feel this was Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.

The thing I don't think I'm supposed to say out loud: Any means by which we pry the money and power from billionaires results in a better world. Does that mean I personally condone every method? No. But we should really be moving down the list until something works, and they decide when that is.

Snort. I started writing on a MANUAL TYPEWRITER. Still own that Royal Portable, and ribbons are still available. I will pull that out of the box WITH PLEASURE on the day that the tech bros hit my BS redline. Eat fumes, Artificial Idiocy, no access, now how. I like my ideas homegrown by the brain.

The poorest billionaire in California will make about $300 million this year. If we pass the CA wealth tax, he will only make $235 million. In exchange, millions of the poorest Californians will get health insurance. That's the tradeoff billionaires are not willing to make.

There's no doubt that @aoc.bsky.social has changed the trajectory of American politics. Grateful to have her with us on the ground across Michigan to strengthen our movement to get money out of politics, put money in pockets, and pass Medicare for All.

Amazing how many people (all American so far, I'm sorry to say) who have come to argue that the government doesn't have the duty to provide access to food, water and basic services.

The absolute most basic function of government is to ensure that the population has access to food, water, and basic services. To neglect all of that in favour of some stupidly expensive new weapons is a complete failure.

People who are of a religion and a culture and speak out against its atrocities... I admire you and appreciate you. You represent the highest ideals that others have abandoned.

Today I saw a girl with a bumper sticker that said โ€œon my way to buy another little trinketโ€ and then I pulled up to her at a light and saw her car was filled with little trinkets so I rolled down my window and I said โ€œI love all your little trinkets!โ€ and she seemed both stunned and delighted lmao

Hey all, I didn't want it to come to this, but I unfortunately had to leave Seattle and move back in with my parents, which is overall not a safe or welcoming place for me, and there are even fewer opportunities here. There is a safer place I can get to, but I need help. gofund.me/d02f2dada

BREAKING: SCOTUS rejects Trump admin's request to allow it to end gender-affirming medical care in prisons โ€” a significant, if tentative, rejection of one of the admin's most extreme anti-trans arguments. Only Thomas and Alito noted they would have granted the stay. More to come: www.lawdork.com

A reminder: going Indy is a very good option for your career! You just have to research and be thoughtful. Your fellow indys can help you. We can starve out these AI dipshits. With the caveat that I love my indy publishers and they taught me and helped me a lot, as authors we do most of the work.

KJ Charles@kjcharleswriter.com

Apparently the Charter was so vague (just a bunch of fluffy aspirations) because publishers had indicated they wouldn't sign up to anything more specific (such as measurable and meaningful commitments to transparency and consent). That will not do.
