here, write it down so it’s easy to repeat: an illegitimate supreme court allowed an insurrectionist barred by the 14th amendment to take office and his pardons aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on

FWIW, most MAGA people probably believe Amy Acton’s stepfather raped her. But they think being a rape victim Is disqualifying. I get this from my family. They believe I was raped in college. They just use that as their reason to call me crazy and say my judgment is untrustworthy.

VEEP's basic thesis that people with zero principles are actually shitty at politics vindicated IRL

Radley Balko@radleybalko.bsky.social

Fascinating that as even as other Republicans who long ago sold their souls to MAGA still have enough baseline political acumen to see how poisonous this is, Vance is completely oblivious. It isn't just that he has no principles, decency, or moral compass, he's also really fucking bad at politics.

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

Rape, refusing to believe rape victims, and sympathizing with rapists, is far more common in our society than most would like to believe. It is done by sniveling cowards who are scared of women. Ramaswamy is a pathetic coward who ran this ad because he's scared.

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

i don't think i've ever seen a campaign do a murder-suicide before (decent chance this drags down the entire GOP ticket in the state)

There's a lot of talk that this will be the end of his chances in Ohio. I hope so. But remember: it is depressingly common for men to rape, and for our society to excuse rapists and refuse to believe rape victims. There are more people out there like Ramaswamy than we would like to belive.

Chalking Ramaswamy's decision to air that ad up to "posting brain" insinuates that the decision to weaponize a woman's trauma is something new to the social media age. It isn't. It's a classic formula used by rapists and by men who don't think rape is that big a deal. Cowards like Ramaswamy.

Yes, men like Ramaswamy are terminally online and on X, where awful shit like this is common and encouraged. But misogyny and cowardice predate X, and Ramaswamy was both a misogynist and a coward before he ever logged on.

As @tressiemcphd.bsky.social shares, being surrounded by like-minded people ready to act is exactly what this moment needs! We are so excited to head to her home state of North Carolina for #FacingRace26. Join us November 12–14 in Raleigh, NC, as we move from philosophizing to doing.

Whatever issue you have with Hillary Clinton, there is no question we would be better off today had we elected her president.

Hoodlum 🇺🇸@nothoodlum.bsky.social

Exactly 10 years ago today: Hillary Clinton said Vladimir Putin would rather have "a puppet as president of the United States.” She absolutely nailed it. 🔨

This is not limited to just Trump, either. It's staggering how many leaders at institutions, all down the line, just pivoted to doing away with basic aspects of democracy and diversity because their immediate supervisor told them to.

Obviously, there's no point in trying to refute this with evidence, because no one who believes this batshit crazy bullshit would be convinced by evidence. You call the people who believe this stupid to their face. You mock them. Trump is delusional. He has lost his mind.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "We have 5 states where your child goes off to school as Tim and comes back as Tammy 3 or 4 days later. It's true. And teachers make a decision. 'Goodbye Timmy I love you so much, I'll see you later.' And you say, 'Where's my son? My son is in the hospital.' Can you imagine?"

Kinda feel like Elon Musk is proving Marx right when he wrote: "Each step in the development of the bourgeoisie was accompanied by a corresponding political advance of that class...the bourgeoisie has at last...conquered for itself, in the modern representative state, exclusive political sway."

If the abject failure of an incompetent person who only got the job because she's white and looks like every other woman the president is attracted to doesn't make the case for DEI, I don't know what to tell you.

i got a notification that i am tagged on this and burst out laughing when i looked at it

This illustrates how many people (mis)understand 1A, as a license for the purveyor of the stupidest, most vile, or most partisan view to be heard without being challenged or dismissed. If we're not granting the biggest fool the biggest platform, we're oppressing them. Needless to say, it's BS.

FWIW I also attempted to add some historical context to the issue of "polarization" and "compromise" in this piece. time.com/7326230/poli...

time.comThe Perils of Political CompromiseHistory shows that compromising on basic tenets of democracy is not the route to peace or stability.

Part of defending education in our moment is shaming people whose ignorance is integral to their exercise of power. Donald Trump wields his ignorance as a weapon. This woman is in the position she is because of her ignorance.

The notion that Trump, a man who has bragged about assaulting women with impunity and was convicted of sexually assaulting E. Jean Carroll, is "family-friendly" is just appalling. She should know that, but she can barely fucking read.

My six year old literally reads better than this. She cannot read as well as a six year old. Yes, she should feel ashamed of that. She should feel ashamed for working for that awful man, for lying on behalf of his administration, and for not being able to read as well as a six year old.

Multiple things are true here. This is a fascist, authoritarian administration. It has not yet fully consolidated power. Some of its efforts to do so have been frustrated. Trump is a doddering, confused egomaniac who started an unpopular war that's costing everyday people a lot of money.

Nobody deserves these kind of threats, even Marjorie Taylor Greene. Also, Greene allied with Trump in the first place because she didn't care if he behaved this way toward others. She is a selfish coward and a fool, and this only further proves it.

"Your fault, you deserve it." is some crazy work

I'm convinced that the essential paradox of the tech oligarchy is that they know they have to relate to other people and at least try to pitch their ideas to the public but they suck at it because they also think they're better than everyone else.

Nathaniel C. Green@nathanielcgreen.bsky.social

Sure, this is a scam. But the through line for all of these ideas by tech billionaires is that they've offloaded all of their thinking to other people that they honestly don't know how to do anything themselves, and they assume no one else does either
