Not a big story, it's just the Attorney General working with an imprisoned pedophile to help cover up the pedophile President's crimes conducted with his best friend for 15 years, a pedophile who the President sent, as a birthday card, a drawing of a naked adolescent girl.

Amanda Marcotte@amandamarcotte.bsky.social

This report is genuinely overwhelming, in terms of the evidence both against Trump and of a ham-fisted cover-up. Including one instance in which Ghislaine Maxwell was actually about to mention one of Trump's young accusers and Todd Blanche told her to stop talking. The media response is "yawn."

Man, the media really missed being able to lean in on the whole "is this Black guy too pretentious" narrative that served them so well 20 years ago, huh?

This is garbage. It's very easy to say: "My opponent is a creep who wants to inspect your children's genitalia. I think government should mind its own fucking business." Makes me sick that Turek doesn't have the guts or the interest in fighting for the underdogs here.

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

If I were a Democrat running on a message of fighting for working people, I would simply choose to not sell out those same people by repeating right wing talking points and dehumanizing rhetoric.

Turek’s stance is cruel, electorally misguided, and out of step with his own party. Most swing-seat Democrats *have* stood with us, but keeping the trans community’s trust requires Democrats—and, at a minimum, LGBTQ+ organizations—to call this bullshit out.

This performative, over the top cruelty and dehumanizing rhetoric is not new for Richard Dawkins. It's disgusting and so far out of step with our values — and basic decency.

This isn't new. He's previously endorsed the idea that trans women shouldn't be entitled to ANY benefits for "biological" mothers, should be excluded from public restrooms. That's not some meta-discourse of what you're "allowed" to ask. It's an extreme policy position that would require enforcement!

And the moment you push on it, Dawkins and his defenders retreat to the notion that he's just an academic asking philosophical questions or pointing out... something about gametes? It should probably be obvious but "We should pass a law that does X" ain't just idle musing.

Nick Fish reposted

This is literally the end of the rule of law. If a President can pardon people committing crimes on his behalf - and the Supreme Court says he himself can't be prosecuted for crimes committed as part of his job - then the government becomes a lawless entity able to violate our rights without limit.

There's essentially no daylight between Richard Dawkins and Pete Hegseth here. And that's a hell of a thing to say.

The apologia I see on behalf of Dawkins from people committed to the idea that he's incapable of bigotry or lazy thinking — he's a Man Of Science™, don't you see?? — is stunning. They invent a position for him ("He's just concerned about fairness in sports!") while ignoring what he actually says.

50 years ago, the Attorney General went to prison for committing crimes to cover up the criminal actions of the President of the United States. The fallout from Watergate led to the building of a wall of independence at DOJ that lasted half a century. That wall has been shattered by Trump's people.

Obviously, we want to know how USCIS is engaging in oversight to ensure these visas are not being abused and to ensure workers are being protected. With this program, it's clear they aren't. And their refusal to provide even basic transparency here is par for the course for this administration.

After multiple stories broke showing how the government has failed to supervise this program, we sought information from USCIS. This visa program is supposed to be for faith leaders and other religious workers. Instead, it's been used to traffic and exploit vulnerable people.
