sigh, you know, people talk about how they are basically "trapped" in their houses, but I'm starting to worry that I am "trapped" in my current job forever - which all things considered isn't THAT bad a job, and clearly I'm fortunate to have a good job, but there is a certain ennui it generates.

Making "clinging to guns and religion" references in 2026 is like, well, Trump always playing "YMCA" at his rallies

I'd like more of our electeds to think seriously about the gap between what the law requires/prohibits and less about passive "norm preservation" framings of their roles in the state

Flávio Bolsonaro had his passport confiscated by the Brazilian fed police as his brother Eduardo told him to flee to the US. He is tied to paramilitary gangs, is being investigated & lost his legislative immunity when he left the Senate to run for president. paydayreport.com/brazilian-fe...

I dont know if it's because they love republicans and want them to win but holy crap is this an embarrassment. the equivalent of reckless disregard in terms of journalism fuck ups. Just the simplest damn googling.

bluntly this is also what destroyed LBJ and led to the nixon landslide, yes vietnam also mattered and was probably #1, but the white working class was infuriated that black folks would also benefit from the great society programs

The “something” in question was the workers themselves deciding by 1966 that they no longer wanted New Dealer welfare capitalism if it meant black Americans would benefit from it while anti-war protesters were free to burn the flag

I do think when historians look back the period the exact moment where it flipped and started going the other way won’t be anything any politician did but my Minneapolis neighbors weathering the worst of the regime in the streets, rallying together, fighting back, and winning

The Hard Hat Riot is the single most important and consequential independently organized labor action in post-Gilded Age American history but the entire left-of-center has deliberately chosen to completely forget it because of how utterly embarrassing it is to us

This was a significant portion of Liverpool fandom from 2018-20. Obviously it turned out great in the end for the most part, but living it week by week was excruciating

no worse agony as a sports fan than when your team is really good

Neither here nor there but I just found my favorite version of this song, performed by the Lazy-B-Wranglers from Estes Park, Colorado (the internet is still good for a few things)

NEW: "Donald Trump was an active participant in Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of young women during the mid-to-late 1990s," per new House Judiciary Dem report. Report has new allegation that Trump raped a 24-year-old and then promised the victim a visa & NYU admission, demanding she stay quiet.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

“protein enriched chocolate chip cookie” is kinda the perfect synthesis of the conflicting american male desires to be a spartan warrior and also five years old

The thing about this is that Trump's 2024 victory was always built on irreconcilable messages that were going to collapse once he actually had to govern. Deport everyone, but also deport only the "criminals"; no more wars, but also more belligerent, more isolationist, but also more pro-Israel.

American conservatives are constantly bemoaning the decline of aesthetic standards and calling for a return to tailored suits and classical Roman architecture, but are now forced to defend the Cheesecake Factory. A constant tension between the Brooks Brothers patrician and the Kid Rock populist.

Guys, is it good news when the biggest GOP shill on Twitter is not showing their predictions because of the impending blue wave?

This makes we want to go back and look up someone like Edmund Ruffin to see his pre-Civil War writings. There must have been some hilarious Sephiroth posting going on in some of those southern broadsheets.

There is a certain brand of pundit that since 2016 or so has been so anxious about “getting middle America wrong” that they end up being offensive in reverse because they force themselves to be so patronizing

marine corps boards crossing out their instructions "expel trans marines" and writing in "we keep this trans marine" is, frankly, a great example of what it means that a society is more than just its government
