Sunday October 18th – 8:40am 15 minute firehose comparison between #WSocial (48.2k accounts) and #Eurosky (36.9k accounts). Please DO NOT call W a "ghost town", it really triggers their leaders and MEGA fans, ok? They plan to monetize their platform in 2027, ok? Ok?!? 👻 #NOGhostTown #WSocialPics

lmao this reads like a wsocial parody account but unfortunately it's real

As we have communicated. We did the update on Septemebr 17th. Now a question back to you @wdonthavetime.selfhosted.social Who have funded you and what is your connection to other PDS operators? What is your motive to create a site framing public information as a "data-leak" what's your motive?

My biggest flex of the week is that the head of the Chromium media team (Dale Curtis) is now tagging ME in WebCodecs issues instead of me tagging him 😎

something i find absolutely exhausting, discussion about this stuff is always so guy-coded, it's all what's most efficient or most impactful, or produces some result or whatever. always the most of something. i don't care about any of that. i enjoy writing code. why do we gotta optimise our output

this is a *wild* thing to post

Official announcement will follow next week: we're meeting on Tuesday, October 7, for our next @NixRust meetup in #Mannheim. We still have time for a second talk, so if you have a topic or project related to #RustLang or #NixOS that you'd like to present, get in touch!

everyone loves dynamic languages until you ask them how to do "this is either an error or a string, but not both, and not neither"

When I had my one and only conference paper published on #ACM three years ago, I chose a dedicated email address for the author email. The amount of academic spam on it is almost hilarious. Also half of them are addressing me as Dr or Prof when I'm neither.

It really saddens me how some people cannot differentiate between an artistic choice that might not “make sense” and AI slop that is total nonsense and something an artist would never do. Canonical inaccuracy is absolutely a choice or even an accident that an artist could make lol.

Seeing all those atproto.nyc posts makes feel like I'm missing out. Anyone want to jump start a southwest Germany atproto user group with me? (Mannheim / Heidelberg / Frankfurt / Karlsruhe / Stuttgart)

Why does my location show up as "Mannheim, Baden-Baden" in @atls.city 🤔 Baden-Baden is 100km away from Mannheim. And where can I fix this so it correctly says Baden-Württemberg instead?

One thing I keep noticing while using bsky.app (or mu.social and other forks) is how network-chatty the application is. Is this lack of optimization? Is this how XRPC is supposed to be used? Are hundreds of requests simply not a problem anymore since HTTP/2?

Bridgy Fed is a great tool, but as I become more active on Bluesky I wonder if I should disable it for my Mastodon profile. I wish I could selectively disable it just for some posts, where I consciously post on both platforms (e.g., event announcements) and prefer the direct engagement.

Like, it's a bit weird engaging from this account with the comments that aren't bridged themselves (because the authors aren't bridged to the fediverse).

To this day I haven't encountered a single TUI (terminal UI) I enjoyed using... Being limited to character level coordinates never made me understand why someone would prefer it over a GUI. That's also why I avoid any clutter in non-GUI neovim, using it just for text editing works fine.

Why is .config/ in git repositories not a thing? As an XDG_CONFIG equivalent to move .vscode, .zed, .forgejo away from the repository root, that would be pretty nice. #git #forgejo #gitea #vscode #zededitor

Is there any tooling for atproto PDS operators to be made aware of moderation actions against data stored by their users? Mostly wondering because as a PDS operator you'd be legally responsible to delete illegal content, even if it is made inaccessible at the app layer.

i’m glad framework supports this guy, so cool (and by “cool” i mean remarkably disappointing) i do kinda hope this of all things will make them realize, but even then that means ~nothing to me given past events

Just in case you still use any Basecamp products, DHH is crashing out about his AI product gently pointing out that it’s bad for him to have extermination fantasies about the Roma people.
