Kudos to NBC New York for saying it without equivocation: "The US is to blame for the world falling behind in the fight against climate change."

Driving under-16s out of all public spaces, followed by driving them out of all online spaces, where they can find mutual support, is not going to end well. More pointedly, this allows platforms to abdicate their responsibilities to create moderation and safety features. Effectively victim blaming.

UK officials admit that they will do "hard checks" to enforce the under-16 social media ban after Australia's failures and will require platforms to verify via passport, license, or credit.

for reference, in the Dobbs opinion, Alito was like, women generally don't _plan_ to get an abortion, so how could they have a reliance interest in abortion? which is kind of an extension of 'you want health insurance? what, you plan on being sick?'

Marty Lederman@martylederman.bsky.social

Samuel Alito: We won't overturn Obergefell because it's engendered reliance interests. Jan Crawford: Well, many people had organized their lives around Roe v. Wade. Alito: No, they didn't. Women merely had an "abstract" interest in "ideas about the kind of society that they were going to live in."

If I went to Switzerland and won a Swiss watch precision contest, I would literally never talk about anything else

Katie Mack@astrokatie.com

I went to Geneva a few weeks ago and spoke on a panel about the nature of time for a Geneva Watch Days event. While I was there, on a lark, I entered a competition to most precisely calibrate a Swiss watch. And today I found out that I won! 😃 www.instagram.com/reel/Dd6hUTB...

the cornell case has me thinking about christine blasey ford and how she so bravely testified in 2018 about how future supreme court justice brett kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her. i'm thinking about what i wrote at the time and how nothing has changed:

One of the coolest things about people who don't have a lot of power taking a principled stand is it lays bare the complete cowardice of the ones who actually *do* have power when they fail to do even a fraction as much.

Unlike Macklemore, these support acts don’t have big followings and they are giving up their chance to perform to stadiums to push back against censorship, not of themselves but of a fellow artist. Respect.

I think it's more comforting for some people to think of OBL as some evil genius or tragic victim of imperialism rather than a bog standard delusional ideologically extremist billionaire failson who thought he could accellerationism his way to a theocratic utopia

25 years. The days after showed me so much of the good, the strength we are capable of, as individuals, as a team, as a community. The years after revealed the bad, the manipulation that we are capable of. The decades since remind me of all we lost, all we gave up, all that was taken from us.

It’s a complicated day. Never forget means so much more than just that one day. Changed my life, changed our lives and trajectories, changed the country I called home. All I can wish for today is peace and love. For everyone. #ThorTechnologies #Family #NeverForget

Honestly fascinating how my thoughts today are both a distillation and an amplification of this blog post I wrote 15 years ago, on the 10 year anniversary. Glad my blog, neglected, untended, broken links and all, is still around to remind me of this. demerzelsechoes.com/post/5882600...

Google just rolled out a new Android experience that makes it easy for users to securely move their #passwords + #passkeys between #CredentialManagers. A nice step forward for user choice in the credential manager ecosystem, exactly what @fidoalliance.bsky.social Credential Exchange is designed for.

blog.googleSwitching password managers is easy and safe on AndroidA new Android feature lets you securely transfer passwords and passkeys between password managers.

It’s essential to give users the freedom to choose and switch credential managers — so they aren't locked into a particular provider or platform — while avoiding the security risks of exporting credentials in an unprotected file. It's great to see the standards work moving into real-world platforms.

Sixty years ago today, the starship Enterprise launched and with it, a vision of the future where humanity had moved beyond its divisions. I was there at the beginning, and I can tell you...
