Since it's been almost a year since I last posted here... Now I pivoted to making my very own FPGA console/computer! I'm aiming for late 1990s performance: a RISC-V CPU + a simple 3D accelerator, both running at ~100 MHz and sharing a few dozen MB of RAM.

When I was a teen I used to do exactly this, except for the "experiments" parts, back then it was mainly _gaming_ :D

Love following them because, amidst all the doom and gloom of (gestures at everything) you get a constant stream of hope in the form of "people work hard to find ways of improving people's lives".

A fun experiment, tried spade-lang.org and made an Ethernet stack running GbE with UDP and ARP support. Nice (Rust) feeling for an HDL, might migrate to it from Amaranth :D Tested on a Colorlight 5A 75B, ECP5 25F. The stack is about 5k LUTs/4k FF, the rest debugging, UART and MDIO scanning.
