I emailed Patrick Healy, assistant managing editor for standards and trust at NYT, to ask why their story about a House report with new details of rape allegations against the President of the United States included neither those details, nor a single use of the word "rape." archive.is/1s9AM

The only reason I can think of for this news not being absolutely everywhere is that large media orgs don’t want to be seen as putting their thumbs on the scales a week before election day. And that’s cowardly as shit.

There is no reason to ever take anything a Republican says at face value. Their entire worldview is hidden behind a veil of falsified preference. They lie constantly about everything to everyone and themselves, to protect their own self-image and regard.

It's almost like they don't really care about women and they are just using trans women as a trojan horse to attack Title IX protections for all women and Democrats must immediately stop taking it at face value. We are on our knees out here begging them to protect women's sports, but for real.

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

Female athletes at every level are not out here asking for protection from stiffer competition. They are asking for better game times, better facilities, better equipment, and better protection against sexual harassment and assault.

BREAKING: Game 6 of the WNBA Finals will be held Thursday at 12:30pm ET at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, sources told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. It will be a double-header with the Atlanta Hawks’ game, which will be moved to 8pm.

There is no outcry when they do stuff like this because all Republicans are like this. That's why they're Republicans. If they didn't want to be like this they would leave the party. People stay in that party for the only reward it ever returns, permission to be their worst self.

Tim Scott calls Annie Andrews "tranny Annie"

This is a great article. And it's basically what I've been saying the media is creating misleading headlines and refusing to contextualize Donald Trump's activity is illegal because they want shares and clicks from conservative spaces. Simple edits would clarify but they won't make them.

Mark Jacob@markjacob.bsky.social

Gratified to see widely respected journalist Margaret Sullivan endorse my view that major media must depict Trump’s abuse of power as a “five-alarm fire” – because it is.

This is gross on multiple levels but that aside, this is just completely inexplicable to me. Why? What does it mean? How is this bad? It looks like it would have been fun.

It's really damning. The accusations are numerous and well-supported. But I was really struck by the descriptions of Trump's behavior -- the name dropping, strong-arming, and attempts to buy off silence. His gross rivalry with Epstein. It's all so familiar. It's shit he's been doing his entire life.

People don’t understand why I keep noting that BlueSky is not a bubble, it is a counterpublic. It serves its own organizational function: you can see in realtime in January 2025, on multiple types of social media, shouting that an executive order is instruction to an agency. This one stuck.

Rightwing politics is a smash and grab operation. Crude, violent rhetoric to get attention. Grandiose promises. Chest-pounding to convey energy. Menacing the polls. Once elected, bullying and defiance of all restraint in order to hold power. People are sick of it.

New in PN: Ramaswamy discovers that voters have their limits "This is the nature of today’s right-wing bubble, whose residents are not only acculturated to a particular political style — cruel, often hateful — but become convinced it’s the only effective way to do politics, & any other way is weak"

This is the kind of talk I like.

No one should have to tell you it's on the ballot, it's been on every ballot since Roe. You have never not voted on abortion. People constantly pretend otherwise so they can avoid accountability for their vote. Abortion was, is, and will continue to be on the ballot.

San Antonio Current@sacurrent.bsky.social

Once seen as a crucial issue after the fall of ‘Roe,’ candidates here are now largely ignoring it altogether.

Just like no one should have to tell you that voting rights for women and people of color are on the ballot, and gay marriage is on the ballot, and climate change is on the ballot. No one needs to tell you this, you should know. If you don't know, what is your news feed??

The attack on trans athletes is a direct attack on Title IX, and Democrats who play footsie with it are dangerous to all women, not just trans athletes. We have GOT to be clear about what the danger is here, it's not trans athletes, it's the end of women's equal access protections in education.

Assigned Media@assignedmedia.org

The Trump administration has worked to portray itself as protecting women and girls through their anti-trans policies. Meanwhile, they've worked tirelessly to undermine protections against sexual assault. Wither Title IX, in this exceptional new reported story by @billiejsweeney.bsky.social.

Remember, being white is still not enough to confer citizenship. They think citizenship, and the protections of the Constitution, should only be available to adult white men who are party members in good standing.
