There is truly nothing you could do to make fun of the NYT covering the Obama Cheesecake Factory quip instead of Trump being accused of rape. It’s completely beyond parody.

Cystic Fibrosis had a median life expectancy of ~12 years for people born around when I was in the early 1980s. It is now in the 60s. When I was in school the expectation was bald eagles might still go extinct and I never saw one until adulthood. I've seen a dozen in the last year or so.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

An amazingly stark example of how the US economy has broken: Zaslav clears nearly a *billion* dollars amid a CEO tenure where he made basically anything he touched worse, harmed multiple prestigious brands, led huge layoffs—but delivered a corrupt merger for shareholders. variety.com/2026/tv/news...

Kansas has 4 former, living GOP governors. Two have now endorsed Adam Hamilton, the Dem, for Senate. Mike Hayden just penned this oped in the Kansas City Star this morning; Adam Graves had done the same last month.

It's so annoying to me that everyone wants to wishcast term limits into being a thing you can lawfully do (I even think it's a good idea on the merits, though not really responsive to the current problems. But it absolutely, 100% requires an amendment)

By contrast, I blame the antisemite with the gun. Because it turns out that even antisemites have agency.

Personally, I blame Nentenyahu and the far right for this - there has always been antisemitism, but bc of the response to Oct 7th and the annihilation of Gaza, there is another layer of hatred against Jews today, even though most Jews dont support the war at this point.

It’s the death of expertise. Everyone thinks THEY are the expert. The whole world is sports talk radio.

Not enough eps for WoT. 15 years is a long time... I think Robin Hobb's Fitz stories starting with the Farseer Trilogy would be doable.

The Democratic primary for governor of Wisconsin is a really great example of why America needs to switch to ranked-choice voting in primaries. As of now it looks like the winner of the race will prevail with <40% of the vote! No good reason not to switch ahead of 2028.

Not to beat up on Douthat even more, but I'll just say: it has never, in all of post-war American history, been more crystal clear exactly who your enemy should be. Never. If it's not obvious to you, you are morally & intellectually defective.

Nicholas Grossman@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

In dishonor of Ross Douthat's last NYT column, I'm breaking my self-imposed ban on reading him—smug bad faith, whiny victimization, and steadfast refusal to let evidence affect opinion—and will screenshot and comment. This is the column if you want to read it yourself (I don't recommend it). 1/x

Hall of Fame voters have made some questionable decisions through the years, but denying Belichick first-ballot entry is by far the most ridiculous ever. A delegitimization of the institution and those associated with its process.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony is this weekend for the Class of 2026. Friendly reminder: Voters decided #Patriots owner Robert Kraft & Bill Belichick were unworthy of induction. 15 owners & 29 coaches enshrined, but no room for the most successful among them.

“Liberals will always choose fascism over socialism” is one of this website’s conventional ways of saying “I am stupid and I prefer reading the opinions of other stupid people”. It is good when stupid people self-identify, so we should not complain when they do so

The thing is, Bernie Sanders sucks and always has.

BRENNAN: You were an early supporter of Graham Platner. Do you regret not acting earlier for him to drop out given the warning signs? BERNIE SANDERS: No, I don't think so

The documents that Trump released and endorsed clearly validate and detail a massive Russian intelligence service operation to elect Donald Trump of which he and his entourage were aware and in which they knowingly participated. Russiagate is real, we learn.

If you don't care if they're a secret Nazis as long as they had the right positions, then you should admit you're OK if they're rapists or pedophiles too. Morally bankrupt. This should be a moment where one steps back and reassessment one's values.

Graham Platner refusing to apologize for having a Nazi Totenkopf tattoo on his chest for 18 years because he "didn't know" its significance while SIMULTANEOUSLY admitting that he knew damned well at the time that Nazis used it as their insignia.

The same people who say both parties are the same are complaining that Platner isn't being given a pass by Democratic officials and voters like Republicans would.

That’s why Platner is basically their Waterloo. Tune Inn conspiracies aside, audience capture meant they needed to loudly support the “fuck Chuck Schumer and the establishment” crew, and the poster child of that was Platner. But it all goes back to them wanting in on the group chats. It’s tragedy.

They had on all the candidates (expect Biden, funny enough). They openly supported Bernie (and Warren), but did so from the traditional Democrat side, arguing his supporters’ enthusiasm would be needed in November. Biden won, and they clearly were a bit annoyed because he’d stiffed the show.

The thing about Pod Save is that from 2016-2020, their core audience was Resist Lib Wine Mom Establishment Dems. And the entire time, they looked longingly at the dirtbag leftist media sphere, which they were banned from for the aforementioned core audience. In 2020, they tried to bridge the gap.

This. A foundational Sanders endorsement has been a huge red flag since the days of Tulsi and Fetterman. I expected better from Warren (and Murphy).
