You could not waterboard this confession out of me, much less get me to put it in an interview. Can you imagine her kid's middle school enemies getting wind of this? "You suck so much your mom needed Chat GPT to say anything nice about you."

Top Trump Aide Steve Witkoff, to Vladimir Putin: "You talk so much about Trump being a humanitarian, you are a humanitarian also, sir. I salute you, and I commend you."

From me at @theijf.org. In 2022, Vaughan resident Francesco Villi murdered five people in his building using a registered handgun, and was killed by police. The SIU report said he owned the gun legally, and media said that Villi had been subject to a restraining order. What I wanted to know was:

Francesco Villi was known for harassment and threatening behaviour long before he shot six of his neighbours in a Vaughan, Ont., condo in 2022. But his gun ownership records never reflected a protection order a judge issued after complaints from his neighbours. zurl.co/wHpLm

Bill C-21, a package of gun control measures passed by Parliament in 2023, requires a court issuing a restraining order to notify the provincial chief firearms officer, but so far this provision hasn't been brought into force.

But his gun ownership records never reflected a protection order a judge issued after complaints from his neighbours. zurl.co/wHpLm

... given that restricted gun licences are (in theory) hard to get and easy to lose, why did he keep it after the restraining order, which he also later breached? After a 31-month FOI process, I got a fairly uncensored copy of Villi's gun licence file, which, by omission, answered the question ...

Frustratingly, it was just an issue of bureaucracies not talking to each other. Police had the authority to seize the handgun that eventually became the murder weapon, but the court that issued the restraining order never entered it into a database that would have brought it to their attention.

This is a publicly funded government agency refusing to share weather warnings and their own public warnings with a journalist at Global News, one of the larger mainstream news outlets in Canada. I really want you to sit with the bare facts of that.

Trump says Russia has “been fine on Ukraine” and “hasn’t been doing much." His comments came the same day a Russian drone struck a park in Kharkiv Oblast, killing six people, including a 14-month-old girl. Russia continues to attack Ukrainian cities and kill civilians daily. buff.ly/jbmykwq

President Trump: Russia, frankly, has been fine on Ukraine. They haven't been doing much. Comment from me: see quoted post.

Today, five children killed by a Russian attack - 13-year-old Zakharii, 14-year-old Viorika, 16-year-old Dominika, 9-year-old Federika, and 18-month-old Artem - were laid to rest in Radushne, Dnipropetrovsk region. A Russian missile struck the Voronov family's home on the night of July 29-30.

I've been toying around a lot with the idea of libidinal rationality, which is when people act not according to strict rationality of maximising profit or returns or sustainability, but toward what provides them with libidinal satisfaction, which trumps everything else

We've lived for so long with this mythology that sure, the wealthy can be cruel. But at least the cruelty has a point. Profit! I'd like us to open our hearts to other possibilities. Power doesn't just corrupt! It can also breed truly reality-distorting levels of incompetence.

this is so funny. Americans get essentially no vacation and no holidays. We all know the entire summer holiday schedule, all three days of it: Memorial Day, J4, Labor Day. No one is trying to get rid of any holidays. I hereby call on all Democrats to come up with May and June 3 day weekends, please
