🇫🇷🤔 French Presidential Candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon: Russians are naturally our allies. And the times when they are not our allies, they are the ones invading us. If they attacked us, we would respond. But let us do nothing that would turn us into a co-belligerent against Russians.

From the govt's press release: "The developer estimates that Jackdaw will create 27 new direct jobs and safeguard 273 existing jobs that would otherwise be lost." Odd that so much is made about this being good for jobs. Your nearest out-of-town supermarket likely generates more jobs.

This is pathetic. Ukraine tested Starlink speed restrictions in Europe and had no issues - the restrictions only exist in Ukraine. The Trump administration is actively helping Russia kill Ukrainians - and risking the lives of US and NATO advisors in Ukraine.

Dropping Ukraine, not just Zelenskyy

eualive.netDropping Ukraine, not just ZelenskyyDonald Trump is not simply turning against Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The pattern of the past days treats Ukraine itself as adjustable. After the latest call with Vladimir Putin, Washington has signalled that continued Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil facilities could end American intelligence sharing and restrict European purchases of U.S. weapons. That is a different order of pressure from earlier complaints about Kyiv’s leadership. It raises the cost of resistance for the country that is already under greater strain, while Russia keeps the military initiative. The diesel arrangement fits the same logic more than any strategic gift to the Kremlin. Easing some restrictions on Russian fuel exports is presented in Washington as a way to increase supply and bring down pump prices in the United States ahead of the midterms. The revenue that flows to Moscow is real, but it is the secondary effect. The primary interest on display is domestic and immediate: lower energy costs for American consumers, and the political credit that comes with them. Pleasing Putin is not required for that calculation to hold. Starlink remains the other American lever still in private hands. Ukrainian sources reported that SpaceX tightened speed limits on terminals in motion, disrupting missions that depend on rapid movement. Whether the change was technical or arrived after pressure is not public. What is public is that the network can be adjusted by a single company whose owner has previously demonstrated the power to restrict it. Ukraine’s own satellite plans and European alternatives will not replace that density in the near term. Europe will continue financial and military support. It cannot, however, replace American early-warning and high-resolution technical intelligence at the same speed or coverage. The practical result is an uneven squeeze. Russia gains an economic cushion and faces fewer constraints on its energy revenues. Ukraine is asked to limit one of its more effective tools against the Russian economy while its early-warning and communications advantages sit under threat. Trump has said he wants the war to end quickly. The method now visible is to make continued resistance more expensive for Ukraine, in service of a narrower MAGA interest in fuel prices and electoral timing. Whether that produces a freeze closer to Moscow’s terms, or simply a longer war with thinner support, mostly depends on how far the restrictions are actually applied. Unfortunately. who.intWHO Director-General's opening remarks at the media briefing - 7 October 2026Good morning, good afternoon and good evening. Last Friday, the 2nd of October, the first media reports emerged of a suspected case of pneumonic plague in a laboratory worker at the Irkutsk Antiplague Research Institute in the Russian Federation. The lab worker died after being hospitalized with severe pneumonia. Initial media reports suggested pneumonic plague following an accidental lab exposure. WHO is aware that the Russian government held a meeting on the 2nd of October because they suspected a resident of the Irkutsk oblast had contracted a dangerous infection. On Saturday, WHO asked the Russian Federation for more information, in accordance with the International Health Regulations. Yesterday, the Russian Federation responded, saying that no case of plague had recently been reported in the Irkutsk oblast, and that they had placed about 200 contacts in quarantine. However, WHO has requested further information on the laboratory tests conducted on the individual who died and the contacts, more detail on what prompted the public health measures, and details about the health status of the contacts. We have also sought verification of media reports of a second employee with pneumonia of undetermined cause. WHO has offered technical support related to plague and lab biosafety...
