Oh wow, I never thought about Cole when thinking about the spirits in Spirit Crossing 😮 #DAI #SpiritCrossing

I played the demo for this weekend and I started crying because the spirits speak in metaphors just like Cole 💜 Check it out!

If there were any justice in the world, every day would be #WorldWombatDay, but today is the official day to celebrate these glorious creatures that crush their enemies with their buttocks, dig burrows tens of metres long, constantly regrow their teeth, have babies called wombatlets, and poop cubes.

Going to give my own takeaway on the demise of Bioware, which still makes me very sad. The TLDR: Bioware was not killed suddenly by a private equity acquisition. It was slowly strangled by idiots who didn't understand what made Bioware great - some at EA but also some inside of Bioware leadership

While the Kushner/Saudi acquisition of EA may have slightly hastened the final blow, the heart and soul of BioWare games has always been the amazing writing. Do not forget that ALL the brilliant writers who wrote what you loved had already been discarded by BioWare long before the acquisition. (1/2)

One more for the afternoon crowd. Two of the last lines of dialogue I wrote on the last BioWare game I shipped.

Find out who wrote your favourite characters. Support their Patreons or Ko-fis or Kickstarters or published books. Follow whatever projects they are working on now. Their talents for telling good stories is still out there, and they deserve your support far more than some company brand name.

Dragon Age has become a huge part of my life right now and seeing the news that Bioware is shutting down sure stings. But remember that a lot of the devs are off starting their own projects and opening new studios - there are still stories to be told. Go out and find them, support them.

BioWare was my "I can fix him!" game dev job. I loved it so much even though it put me through the ringer. I have complicated feelings towards my ex, but I never wanted to hear that they fucking died.

Man, BioWare getting closed down has me incredibly sad. For all the ups and downs I experienced there it was my home for many years. My heart goes out to all the people affected in today's layoffs.

A referendum should be the easy part. If you can’t pull that off cleanly, the hard part, actually running a country, would go quite badly.

Glad #Alberta voted to stop talking about leaving Canada, but heartsick how many also voted yes on every other barely-disguised racist question that will be used as an excuse by the UCP to destroy more minority protections and make life harder for immigrants AND many who voted on this too. #ABpoli

Albertans voting to stay in Canada can have a little racism, as a treat.

Edmontonians! If you’re into Halloween but less into the bar scene, come to our Halloween choral show, rock a fun costume (or not), listen to a talented band, get some snacks and drinks, and help us raise money for the Edmonton Food Bank! Saturday Oct 24 - 7pm Caernarvon Hall

Octopuses are solitary creatures, which is pretty understandable when most species engage in cannibalism. However, larger Pacific striped octopus are an exception. This undescribed species has been known to live in groups of up to 40 octopuses and mates in a beak-to-beak position. #OCTOtober

On October 13, 1949, Pope Pius XII pronounced the Madonna del Ghisallo the patron saint of bicyclists

It's Giro d'Italia time, which means it's time to honor the Madonna del Ghisallo, the patron saint of bicyclists 🧵

And just like that, it's the last day of The Feast of Bears in #SpiritCrossing. The Feasting has been feasted, the rainbow popcorn has been popped, the traditional hibernation has been observed, and the straw bear has gone up in flames. Time to put this event - and the bears - to bed till next year!

Relatedly, I firmly believe the fastest way to improve your worldbuilding tools is to make your tools engineer sit next to a Worldbuilder for a day and just watch them use it. Worldbuilders are used to suffering in silence. Sometimes, tools engineers need to experience shame.

I firmly believe any game writer is demonstrably better at their job once they at least understand (and ideally can actively participate in) the implementation process.

Tried “birthday buns” for the first time at dim sum brunch today with friends and they are charming little tear-shaped buns dusted with pink and filled with sweet lotus paste. Considering my close-to-20-year fondness for dim sum, how had I never tried these before? 😮 #YEGfood
