RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."
Lula:
"We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. A crime in the digital world must be treated the same as a crime in the real world.
We cannot have monstrous companies earning millions... not paying taxes... wanting to steer elections."
Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted
I want this too, but I am fearful that Elmo is going to use starlink to mess with the results before they can even get to the endless litigation cycle from mid-Nov to early-Jan.
overheard in a gift shop today where there were blatantly AI generated Halloween illustrations, an older woman went "ohh how cute!" and the teenager with her, So Done, goes "I know you have a hard time telling, but that is AI, it's ugly, and I'm sick of it"
I wanted to throw that teen a parade
The first printing of ‘The Widespread Alphabet’ arrived on Thursday and they look marvelous!
The book goes on sale the first week of November at etsy.com/shop/phanart and phanart.weebly.com. I am thrilled to be finally sharing this book with everyone!
Yes & one of his only live concerts preserved from the 1970s! Absolutely KILLER SHOW! FELA KUTI was like if Muhammed Ali, James Brown & Miles Davis were all in one body in Africa. Never be another like him!

AOC: "As AI begins to encroach in our society, their goal is to take your cognition away from you. AI's goal is to take your thoughts away from you, your ability to think away from you, so that you become dependent on a machine ... reading books is active resistance"
A good metaphor also for the moral bankruptcy of the techbro slogan, "move fast and break things," that was once seen, in some quarters, as innovative and cool.
In any other admin, this would probably be the most outrageous official statement ever made by a sitting FCC director: Strongly implying that the government forbids broadcast networks from reporting on the president's falling poll numbers. (Sorry to paste from twitter but that's where he posts.)
Great day at school (students had a peaceful walkout!) followed by a 2-0 boys soccer W capping a 10-1 season, my first time reaching 10 wins as a coach & after a tight game.
Topped that off w/Peruvian ceviche & sushi with Amanda + Pisco sours and the best churros ever. 5 star day, would live again.
This design appears to completely eliminate the much-beloved loop road and public park at Hains Point, and cut down the cherry trees which line the road. The park is a public space used by tens of thousands of Washingtonians and heavily visited by tourists.

“i pay tax before, but still pay tax now?”
We spoke with dozens of half-literate morons about the machinations of local governance. Here’s what they’re saying.
“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?”
Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.
My teenage children, who have never set foot in NYC, go around saying "Help me, Mamdani!" whenever anything goes wrong and/or they can't figure out their homework, just to give everybody a sense of the scale of this man's presence in the culture lol
@repriseband.bsky.social , reprising 12/12/97, a show I have barely listened to because the next night was my first show. Don't even know the setlist and its already a killer show - Funky Bitch -> 2001 and excellent Taste to start!
It’s taking a long time for people to wake up to the fact that these platforms are not public forums but privately owned companies with terrible agendas and total control. If you lay down with these dogs…
