My teenage children, who have never set foot in NYC, go around saying "Help me, Mamdani!" whenever anything goes wrong and/or they can't figure out their homework, just to give everybody a sense of the scale of this man's presence in the culture lol

I, age 49, no longer live in NYC, but I mutter “Help me Mamdani” when my computer glitches or I struggle to afford groceries. The man’s a legend.

My high school students in Philly have begun swapping in "Say on Mamdani!!" to challenge the truthfulness of a classmate (instead of "say on your mom", "on the guys, " etc. )

It's a popular video meme on TikTok. People in *other countries* will show something that annoyed them (anything... a bad bus service, a badly designed bike lane, a broken vending machine...) and they plead with Mamdani to fix it!

my 14yo gives me a daily digest of his announcements and lets me know whether or not he would approve of our household goings-ons and there are “mamdani memes” we perform (like saying “big stretch” to our pets.) we live in north carolina.

Not only here! I have to think Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has to be feeling a twinge of envy over this: bsky.app/profile/jim....

ZOHRAN BABY BOOM Looking through the baby name register, there's been a massive Mamdani-induced boom in England/Wales. 2023: 3 baby Zohrans 2024: Fewer than 3 baby Zohrans 2025: 23 baby Zohrans (There's no way I can make this work for a London news outlet, some New York journalist rip this off.)

They are, but this is a TikTok meme. My kids don't even have TikTok, just to put it in perspective, but the Mamdani memes are so ubiquitous that their friends just text the clips to each other.

And to be fair, the same short form videos are everywhere so kids don’t need to have TikTok to have TikTok We have similarly banned SM accounts in our house but the teens are not even a little outside the inside memes

Yup, as a parent I've come to appreciate that trying to keep social media out of the kids' lives entirely is like sandbagging your driveway in a hurricane. It will still get in. It's still a hard no re: making their own accounts bc I worry about bullying and misinformation, but we let the rest slide

I forget what it was, but I recently said I thought Mamdani would fix something, and I’m in California. And I wasn’t joking. It was some piece of corporate nonsense that when he makes them change it in NYC wouldn’t be worth continuing to do elsewhere. Like how Europe made Apple switch to USB-C.

They technically could continue to sell phones with obnoxious propriety charging ports in the US, but they’d need separate production lines, and the cost of doing that outweighed the profits from selling lightning cables, so EU regulations fixed it worldwide, not just in Europe.
