To the people who are still talking about how Canada is "not taking Alberta seriously" -- what on earth are you talking about? The PM is an Albertan. The leader of the opposition is an Albertan. Our national politics revolve around Alberta's interests and concerns. What else do you want?

The covered COVID vaccines are not available at the moment. I’m in the queue for corneal tissue transplant surgery & need both flu & C19 asap. I can get paid C19 today which i hope my insurance will cover. I had to call a lot of places to get it. I’d qualify for C19 but supply seems to be rationed.

âpihtawikosisân@apihtawikosisan.bsky.social

Tried to get vaxxed early but they said they wouldn't have the supplies until the 19th. Went back yesterday - they had the flu shot but not the COVID shot. Of course, their supplies hadn't come in because this government hates us. So we at least all got the flu jab.

📣 Dear #UCP, The vote today in #Alberta? What a massive, massive, massive waste of resources and taxpayers' money. What a hate-mongering debacle. What a lie-infused polarizing clusterf*ck. Shame. On. You. 😡

"Believe it or not, the planks of the UCP’s winning 2023 campaign platform were tax cuts, safe streets, mental health supports, education and career training, investing in tourism, improving healthcare for women and children, and a guarantee to maintain public healthcare." UCP hid their agenda.

Today Danielle Smith became, the third Premier in Canada’s history to put a question on breaking up our country to a referendum. The other two Premiers were leaders of a Quebec separatist party and had a mandate to do so. Not the way I’d like to be remembered. #ableg #cdnpoli #Yeg #Yyc

Karen Berger reposted

Now we know. Smith committed to give separatists a referendum. She pre-recorded her tomorrow’s TV address, before the Legislature committee had a chance to vote on the #ForeverCanadian petition. UCP sent out a press release on a vote that didn’t happen, while they supposedly listened to me #ableg

😬 Brandon Lunty looked like he wanted to crawl out of his own skin when he found out that the United Conservative Party Caucus sent out a press release announcing the separatist referendum motion was a done deal even though it hadn’t even been voted on yet. daveberta.substack.com/p/what-a-gon...

#wakeupalberta #abpoli All the more reason why the referendum must be scrapped, it's just a lot of corruption and foreign influence tied with a severely incompetent premier and corrupt #UCP

Hon. Thomas A. Lukaszuk@lukaszukab.bsky.social

Wow! While the committee is still deliberating on the #ForeverCanadian petition, government just issued a press release that the committee has already made a decision and recommended a referendum on separatism. Wow! Decision announced before it was made. A gong show? #ableg

This is absolute corruption, in case anyone was wondering. At no point should elected officials be involved designing their own electoral boundaries. Especially in their own favour. Win by doing a good job, not by stealing the voices of the electorate.

Karen Berger reposted

The UCP would win re-election today under the current existing boundaries that were drawn in 2017 and the majority report’s map, but the minority report’s map would make it basically impossible for the NDP to ever win in enough ridings to form a majority government — and that’s the point.

Dave Cournoyer 🇨🇦@daveberta.bsky.social

I make a real effort to not stray into hyperbole when I write about Alberta politics, but I don’t believe it is an exaggeration to describe the minority report as gerrymandering. daveberta.substack.com/p/the-good-t...

I'm here for other premiers shaming Danielle Smith on her separatist bullshit, whether it's Wab Kinews sarcastic take or Doug Ford's earnest, slightly bullying stance. We need this from every mayor and MLA in Alberta as well.

Let's be clear about what happened today. Premier Smith introduced a bill to strip Albertans of Charter rights, denied MLAs the opportunity to debate it and the courts the ability to scrutinize it, and did all of this from her seat on a jet to Saudi Arabia.

Jared Wesley@jaredwesley.ca

The UCP government has invoked time allocation and on a bill removing Albertans' Charter rights. And they're using the notwithstanding clause to do it. Here's why that is a dangerous precedent. And why real conservatives need to stand up against it. open.substack.com/pub/drjaredw...

Karen Berger reposted

I'm the next few days, it would be a mistake to: ❌️ limit the resistance to the teachers' demands or saving public education ❌️ make labour/workers/unions the only faces of opposition The UCP's pre-emptive use of the notwithstanding clause is much broader than one strike or one set of rights.

Jared Wesley@jaredwesley.ca

The days ahead will be crucial. Not just in terms of public opinion, but in terms of political culture. Champions of human rights and the constitution must not only outnumber the premier's supporters. They must persuade Albertans that these positions are dominant, piercing the populist bubble.
