In Toronto-Danforth, Caryma Sa'd — whom I forgot was running until I accidentally found myself at a ward debate late Saturday night — finished 6th of 18:
not to mention Ibn al-Haytham, who’s called the world’s “first true scientist” and def deserved that title for his work as a polymath, he was the equivalent of Isaac Newton but 600 years before Newton, Galileo cited him, Kepler and Descartes did too

Thinking about my Favorite Chekov Moments and decided that top of the list is when he got so horny for an illusionary old west lady that he got gunned down.
(He got better.)
Aw. Farewell Walter Koenig. Few actors have played important roles in two quite seperate sci-fi series while portraying characters who are fascinatingly different from one another. It was lovely to hear his voice in the finale of Picard III. R.I.P.
Doomerism--of which I am constantly extremely guilty!--is a lie meant to absolve us from the obligation to fight and organize like we need to. The actual state of things is way more complex, work-intensive, and scary: the outcomes are not yet decided. Gotta keep playing then. womp womp
Congrats to Lula on overcoming Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump to defeat Hospital Pervert Jr., even as his opposition literally blocked off roads and turned off bus service during election day.
Fascists are scary but they are always, 100% of the time, ultimately gigantic fucking losers.
This episode is an absolutely brutal takedown of how a lot of high-minded genre stories tackle racism and end up being racist and yeah, Star Trek is guilty here
Haha wow, Vampires of the Velvet Lounge is hilariously bad. Feels like it was written by a fifteen year old. I like how every scene has a character literally stating what just happened in that scene, it’s like the movie comes with descriptive audio baked in
Stephen Dorff’s character gets turned into a vampire and inexplicably changes his name to “Ramsey the Devil”, then spends the rest of his screen time yelling “I’m Ramsey the devil, baby!”
This is a Schroedinger thing where if it was meant to be funny it isn’t and if it wasn’t it’s hilarious
This is important. If you're following accounts that do all of these things, I highly recommend unfollowing them. They're just follow farmers who are spreading disinfo.
A few other signs of deactivist accounts:
Posts lots of screenshoted quotes without links/citation
Posts "news" without links
Doesn't use alt text
Seldom posts any link to anything other than their own substack/website/newsletter
Does not acknowledge/correct/delete when they post false info
There was a fucking hole in our planet’s *atmosphere*
Like a legit, no joke, “this will unravel our entire ecosystem” hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines
As a species we decided, “we will survive”
Let’s do that some more
announcing the new World of Darkness TTRPG, Hunchback: The Henchening, a storytelling game of wretched servitude that totally isn't insensitive to people with real disabilities
unions, worker co-ops, and social policies / the government doing stuff are not inherently socialist. if the capitalist superstructure is still in place, e.g. there is still widespread private ownership of the means of production, it cannot be socialist

Do not show me Palmer Luckey's face again, I do not need to know about the latest vaporware press release that netted one of the worst people alive yet another mountain of money while everyone I know is one bad bill away from ruin
I haven't seen the directors' cut but doesn't Parker die pretty much at the climax, along with Lambert? Does he somehow die, then they stumble on Dallas, then Lambert dies?
With Tom Skerritt's passing, the cast of Alien have so far died in the same order as the director's cut (where they find Dallas still alive waiting to become a cocoon):
1) John Hurt
2) Harry Dean Stanton
3) Ian Holm
4) Yaphet Kotto
5) Tom Skerritt
It's macabre, sure, but it's also fascinating.
Also if I want to be very pedantic, Brett is still technically alive in the same scene, he's just like 75% mutated into an egg, so he dies at the same time as Dallas
