I know lots of people loved EJ Swift's novel When There Are Wolves Again. Me, less so. So I wrote a review puzzling out why.

Excellent! We once run a giant timer on the screen for questions. 30 seconds to ask your question. It worked like a charm. Also, if this is an in person event and people have lapel mics, make sure they are turned off if they decide to pop into the washroom before the session. Hard lesson, that one.

I've been on Bluesky for a while now and the Odyssey is the first pop culture event (not politics or sport) that's regularly popping up across my timeline and (with love) I guess nerds must really like Christopher Nolan films.

this is a fascinating essay but when I rule the world, I will ban the use of the word "geography" to refer to controlling 'natural' constraints - these are vanishingly few - almost all physical environments are mediated by culture, tech and power. you have been warned. #geosky

I was on a panel this week at the Royal Society, talking about AI and the future of women in science, and Wendy Hall asked us about the consequences of a future without women working in AI. And my reply was that we don't need to imagine that future. It's here. It's the present.
