Bernie Sanders: "I know conservative parents want to raise their kids to be honest, not to be bullies, not to lie and cheat all of the time. If we want to raise our kids to be honest, not to be narcissists who think the world revolves around them, then we need to hold Donald Trump accountable."

The Democrats’ focus on affordability seems to be a winning strategy. But we mustn’t lose sight of the moral squalor at the core of the Trump regime and the necessity of ending it. My latest for The Guardian. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/oct/23/trump-moral-squalor

Totally incredible! But actually true. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 SCOTTISH VIEW: What a pity England didn't stick to the Publicly Owned model we've always had here in Scotland.

In the run-up to the US elections on 3rd November, I'd say only those folk who believed in racism, otherism, xenophobia, even neofascism, could possibly oppose Mr El-Sayed here.

Starlink / Starshield speeds have finally been restored fully for Ukraine. Elon Musk was the person who restricted them and he has been lying about everything related to this crisis the last two weeks.

Poor Ms Truss. By all accounts this new book of hers sounds like Fantasy Fiction with an astronomic Mirth Index. Her hold on reality, never very secure, seems finally to have become totally untethered. Liz Truss makes unhinged Scotland prediction in new book www.thenational.scot/news/2667074...

Our nation is in grave danger. But across America I’m seeing stirrings of a giant backlash. People rising up and hitting the streets. People getting out the vote. Our fight — for democracy, the rule of law, social and economic justice, and decency — is gaining ground. I believe we will win.

Yes, well, let's hope Mr Musky eventually bankrupts himself, piling ever more of his billions into the Lost Cause of the now far right Republican Party and its dwindling Idiot MAGA supporters.

Elon Musk is spending $445M+ to buy the midterms for one very simple reason. He's terrified that a Democratic Congress might finally hold him accountable.

Does Westminster deliver 𝙖𝙣𝙮 public services better in England than the other administrations do in their nations?

I saw a UK Govt ad today acting like they were doing people a favour by keeping charges of £9.90. Meanwhile, prescription charges were abolished in Wales in 2007, in Northern Ireland in 2010 and in Scotland in 2011. Wake up England! share.google/UNxwTs6eXSss...

Americans are relearning the lesson we learned during the Gilded Age of the late 1890s, when robber barons ran the government and the economy for their own benefit: Oligarchy is incompatible with the common good. I'm hopeful we'll respond with a new progressive movement.

Just wondering if Mt Rushmore will be big enough to support his ego. A considerable quadrillion tonnes of concrete will have to be slurried into that skull to make it even look somewhat normal. But I'm sure all US Republican voters will donate their last dollar to slurry so much concrete.

TRUMP on Mt Rushmore! I got ChatGPT to make this. But I rather doubt if the current POTUS will think his Graven Image is big enough or prominent enough to express fully his Personal Greatness and the Greatness of his Double Presidency. Perhaps he'll sue ChatGPT for $10 trillion for minimising him?

The following quote of Tony Ben is particularly interesting, as he was born into one of the Establishment families to which the quote refers. See ALT Text. When the Establishment eventually created 'Democracy' do you really believe they had any intention of giving back what they held for so long.

Our FM is right so to demand, and I hope he succeeds. Now is the moment for Mr Burnham to prove he is not just an English PM for English folk & English interests. But I doubt if he will agree. After all, the UK govt has a long history (going back to Thatcher & beyond) of selling Scotland short.

George Monbiot absolutely nails it, as he perfectly describes how ‘extractive’, London centric, unionism has drained Cymru for generations If only Cymru was fully governed by those who prioritised the interests of Cymru,to become just another modern, small & successful, European country 🇫🇮🇮🇪🇪🇪🇩🇰🇸🇪🇫🇴🇮🇸🇪🇪

George Monbiot@georgemonbiot.bsky.social

On Question Time last night, I talked about the extractive economic model that has left Wales - and many other nations - impoverished *because they were so rich in resources*. You can see the problem simply by looking at the map: the infrastructure looks like a drainage system.
