This was the order of events: 1. Paramount acceded to Trump’s extortion by paying a bribe. 2. Stephen Colbert calls his employer out for doing that. 3. Paramount fires Stephen Colbert for being honest about Trump. 4. Proving Trump’s bribe worked.

What a contrast: On the one hand, one grandiose spectacle in the nation's capital, a panorama of propaganda put on by an aspiring autocrat. On the other hand, thousands of assemblies of free citizens across the nation, authentic celebrations of the proposition that here the people rule.

It never occurred to him to do a flashy disposal of it or to donate it. He will sell it. To some nut who wants something touched by either of these miscreants. And pocket the profit. What a surprise.

President Trump has decided to sell the red Tesla he got in March, less than 24 hours after the president and Elon Musk engaged in a public spat, according to a White House official speaking on condition of anonymity.

I just really need everybody to understand that everything that’s happening in and to the global economy now (and all the businesses and people in it) is the entirely predictable result of the intentional decisions of one guy who doesn’t understand how the global economy works.

So let me get this straight: masks are bad and un-American if worn to fight a pandemic, but good if worn by people claiming to be government agents when they kidnap people off the street

My first reaction to this article was, “this has got to be a sick prank.” Then I remembered the sick prank was actually our own government.

The Trump administration is working to bring the first group of white South Africans it has classified as refugees to the U.S. early next week. Read more: nyti.ms/3F47waH

Another example of the true costs bubbling under all the fake savings they shout from the rooftops.

Liz Oyer, the Justice Department’s recently fired pardon attorney, made a staggering claim on social media this week: President Donald Trump’s pardons of people convicted of white-collar crimes have cost Americans $1 billion.

I rarely look at federal websites anymore. So kudos to @monicahesse.bsky.social for flagging the batshit remake of www.covid.gov. It’s not a joke. It is a flagrant violation of reality and misuse of government funds for political purposes. But it’s not the truth. And it’s where we are headed.

An unprincipled person making an unprincipled stand caught in a lie. Can someone please express this as a mathematical equation? Or maybe a simple graphic like traffic signs? I suspect it’s not the last time we see it and it will be nice to have a more concise way to call it out.

Why are Democrats still enabling this sham government? Procedural courtesies to people who will never return them. Validation of unqualified appointments and unqualified government. That’s what votes like yesterday’s confirmation of Dan Caine are. They will not restore “normal“ government. STOP

Paul@pshipper.bsky.social

There shouldn’t have been a single yes from Democrats on any appointments. There are no longer norms in place to address the current regime. Certainly no room for appeasement and accommodation.

You mean, all of those additional costs folks paid went to culling flocks, cleaning coops, and instituting protocols to ensure the health and safety of employees and of future livestock? Hmmmm.

The top five egg producers own roughly half of all U.S. laying hens. The biggest of those corporations is Cal-Maine, which just announced quarterly profits of $509 million — more than 3x what it made a year ago. Corporate concentration + bird flu = a price-hiking free for all.

This poke in the eye to average folks a gift to Musk to help him extort people on his new payment platform. And apparently overdraft fees are a kind hearted way to allow the strapped average consumer to overextend themselves to pay for basic needs. How did I have that one so wrong before?

nytimes.comHouse Strikes Down $5 Overdraft Fee Limit, Sending Issue to Trump (Gift Article)Lawmakers also struck down a rule giving the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau supervisory power over tech companies’ payments apps.

States caught unprepared for Trump’s threats to FEMA includes an editorial lapse. The quote from a FEMA spokesperson misuses “effected” and it should be “affected,” so a [Sic] should be added there. Disasters affect people. The effect of Trump on disasters is to amplify them.

To the world: We are fighting back. Our movement has been silenced by the media here—but we are not backing down. This is what our streets looked like across multiple cities. Tomorrow, there will be more of us! Raise a glass to freedom. —With love, Your American allies.

Remember the old days when working folks had pensions? We don’t now. We have self-funded plans largely based in the stock market. That old saw that “the markets are not the economy” is as outdated and misleading as the rest of the stuff Rubio and the rest of them have to say.

Alt National Park Service@altnps.bsky.social

Oh, fantastic—Rubio says ‘economies aren’t crashing, markets are crashing.’ What a relief!

Basically all I can get from this is he’s flooding the market with word salad in hopes of lowering food prices. Good analysis from the Post.

Always grateful to @delauro.house.gov and the others who speak out about these outrageous cuts. Trump and his cronies are stripping this nation of its assets and giving the spoils to the rich. The rest of us are left to struggle with rising costs and fewer resource for help.

Rosa DeLauro@delauro.house.gov

The Trump admin cut the team that helps millions afford heat in winter & AC in deadly heat. People will suffer—all to fund billionaire tax breaks. Trump promised to lower costs for the working class, but he is making things worse.

Proud to have @delauro.house.gov at Connecticut Foodshare today talking about the impact of federal cuts to agriculture & food assistance programs. We’re losing programs that help hungry neighbors & local farmers. It’s senseless. Thanks Rosa & CT members of Congress speaking out & fighting for us!

He should leave a message on FEMA’s voicemail. They will get right back to him…

The wildfires that tore through Oklahoma over the weekend, killing at least four people and destroying nearly 300 structures, also burned down the ranch of the state’s governor, Kevin Stitt, the governor said in a video posted to social media.
