Over the last several days I've heard directly from parents who are scared and outraged about the PPS proposals for closure of their schools. They are calling for action from their elected officials at all levels. Today I have filed an emergency that responds to the urgency of these calls. 🧵

We need to pause this process – not one school should close before we fully explore our options to fully fund education. My office will do everything in its power to help. We need to retain and attract young families to Portland, and we can start by saving our schools. (1/2)

Portland Police are basically arguing that if City Council doesn’t let them use chemical weapons against Portlanders, they’ll be forced to quell our constitutional rights using batons, tasers, and guns.

PPB should not be using weapons of war against Portlanders.

This Thursday, October 29, Portland City Councilors @councilorkanal.bsky.social and @counciloravalos.bsky.social are proposing an ordinance to limit the use of chemical weapons, like tear gas, in Portland. Check out this thread to learn more and take action. ⬇️

LOOK BOTH SIDES OF YOUR BALLOT! I asked my coworker about City Council and he said they weren’t on his ballot. I asked him if he turned it over and it hit him like a ton of bricks.

It’s often said that a small U.S. city like Portland has no role or responsibility in international affairs. But when one of the most horrific genocides in human history is occurring, we have a duty to speak up and act. As a country, we are culpable and actively funding the genocide in Gaza.

This is MY Portland City Councilor!

My house is my asset, but I’m not going to install a cedar closets and a wine cellar when what it needs is thermal windows, and I’ve got bills to pay and kids to feed.

From Lula’s victory speech. Hard to argue. 🇧🇷 “We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. We cannot have monstrously large corporations earning millions and billions, paying no taxes to this country and trying to steer our election results.”

Convinced that this “reputation” comes from liberal voters who think us being critical of politicians = purity test = taking the ball and going home. On the contrary, it just means we’re paying closer attention than you are.

it is very funny that "queer leftists" get this reputation of being above voting or whatever because my wife and I fill our ballots out with enough reverence it feels like it is a religious ceremony

Bolsonaro's loss is not just a loss for Bolsonaro. It's a loss for Trump. For Musk. For Milei. For Netanyahu. For Farage. For Meta and Zuckerberg. For the meat barons, the fossil fuel corporations, and the rest of the neocolonial looters. And it is a massive win for humanity and the living planet.

I do think when historians look back the period the exact moment where it flipped and started going the other way won’t be anything any politician did but my Minneapolis neighbors weathering the worst of the regime in the streets, rallying together, fighting back, and winning

Every time I hear the phrase “purity test” to describe defending the rights of *all* Americans, my disdain for the Democrat party, already at a cellular level, undergoes cytokinesis.

As Portland considers a building decarbonization policy, the Climate and Health Standards , its worth noting that NYC has been implementing a similar law for over 5 years now and it’s not only decreasing emissions, and energy use, it’s also saving people tons of money 💰, creating jobs, and more

Pete Sikora@petesikora.bsky.social

NYC Local Law 97 requires large buildings to slash pollution over time, which leads to energy efficiency. Now, we’re starting to see huge progress as heat pumps reduce energy use by 90%. 🎉 90% (!!!) ✅ lower energy bills ✅ good jobs ✅ less pollution www.urbangreencouncil.org/room-heat-pu...

This is who Portland Police have always been. Except nowadays they don’t need possums, because they have weapons of war to abuse citizens with.

[March 12th, 1981] Portland police officers dumped dead possums in front of the Burger Barn, a popular Black-owned restaurant. This racially motivated act sparked intense civil rights protests, significant political fallout, and lasting community outrage in Portland, Oregon.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

Something like this is going to happen in Portland because the shady-ass “moderates” in Portland pushed Zenith deal through without addressing the labor and safety violations.

Remember: Wealth cannot be separated from power. We're seeing in real time how the extreme concentration of wealth is distorting our politics, rigging markets, and granting unprecedented power to a handful of people. Taxing the rich isn't just an economic issue, it's a defense of our democracy.
