BREAKING: House Democrats have preemptively introduced a resolution to stop the federal government from bailing out AI companies in the event of the industry collapsing. The bill says these companies should be subjected to the ordinary bankruptcy process.

The lessons from Brazil and Serbia? Don't concede one inch of ground to the far right. Don't appease. Don't triangulate. Don't grovel. Don't say they have "legitimate concerns". Mobilise your base, and fight them with all the democratic means at your disposal.

Happy Monday! Reminder to consult with your accessibility team during design, before coding starts.

Some argue web accessibility is super expensive and time-consuming. That's true if you wait till the end and have to rebuild the site. But if you consider accessibility from the beginning and your team knows what to do, then accessibility doesn't have be costly or time-consuming.

Now let’s learn from Brazil. The Right sabotaged the elections, interfered with transportation, used AI to makeup shit. They still lost. People power. Power to the people. #brasil

Talarico: You want to know why they are spending $200 million against me? Because I don’t take their corporate PAC money and I never will. I don’t work for them. I work for you. When we flip this seat in Texas, I’m going to vote to ban corporate PACs so billionaires can’t buy our elections.

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps: -It’s ‘sleight of hand’ -It’s ‘bated breath’ -It’s ‘lo and behold’ -It's 'buck naked' -It’s ‘brass tacks’ -It’s ‘free rein’ -It’s ‘toe the line'

Worse than not knowing semantics, modern full stack developers don’t seem to understand the separation of concerns. A Figma file is not a complete requirements document.

Talarico: "We just found out that [Elon Musk] is almost single-handedly bankrolling this effort to install Ken Paxton in the U.S. Senate and defeat this movement...Elon Musk wants our land. He wants our water. He wants his very own personal United States senator. He is trying to buy Texas."

Not having an <h1> on a web page is like not declaring a primary key in a database table. It may still work, but it's a sign of deeper structural issues.

for the first time since tracking began, more American households have kittens than puppies. there is a reason for this: homeownership is declining, and homeowners are twice as likely as renters to own dogs. did cats engineer the housing crisis? i'll be honest: it is now more likely than not.

It’s a real shame that folk a decade ago weren’t warning developers against utterly insane things like CSS-in-J —  oh.

GitHub@github.com

GitHub.com has fully moved off CSS-in-JS to CSS Modules, resulting in 55% less server-side render time and 25% faster component init. https://github.blog/engineering/architecture-optimization/improving-site-performance-by-shipping-more-css/

Flock camera proliferation is going to make things really, really, really scary for women trying to leave abusive relationships with partners who are cops. They may also increase the number of women arrested for little to no reason.

I’m interested in this session about a developer’s experience being situationally disabled. I wonder if they will address the importance of #accessibility
