Since 2016, I have been thinking about how to make a compelling case to the American electorate for character and virtue in our national leaders. Most people wouldn't want Trump as a friend, neighbor, employee, or co-worker. Yet, we elected him to a second term. Character matters.

I for one think it’s bad that the president can just say crazy stuff all day every day and 99% of it doesn’t make the news because we’ve normalized having an insane president

My entire life I've heard centrists scolding leftist candidates with "oh, but how will we pay for all that? isn't your agenda unreasonable? shouldn't we run on a modest proposal for means-tested tax rebates?" Then Mamdani gets elected and makes it all look pretty easy. No wonder they hate him.

Your regular reminder: If the Russians stop fighting, the war ends. If the Ukrainians stop fighting, their land will be occupied, their leaders will be killed, their history and language will be erased, their children will be kidnapped to serve Russia.

If the money Trump claims to pay is tied to an election result, it isn’t a “cash payment” or “dividend” or “rebate” or “stimulus.” It is a bribe. Plain and simple. Calling it anything else accepts a false premise and helps Trump and Republicans cover up how corrupt it truly is.

This is a lie. He was four miles away famously giving a phone interview to local tv station WWOR in which he bragged that he now had the tallest building in NYC 😡. Why is he allowed to get away with these blatant lies?

Happy 72nd Birthday to Ruby Bridges, who at the age of 6 desegregated the New Orleans public schools. She’s younger than 30 senators and our last two presidents—and only 7 years older than Barack Obama. The past isn’t past.

I recently read Battle Cry of Freedom for the first time. A striking thing was that, by the end of the war, the south was in apocalyptic condition even with Sherman burning it. The North was stronger and more prosperous than when the war began. Liberalism is a military technology.

When Trump is gone there are going to be a lot of Republicans who suddenly want to tell you that they were diligently fighting against his crimes and terrible policies in private. Make them own that they did nothing in public.

And the answer isn’t just that the Biden admin is over. The answer is that Biden left with an economy that was the envy of the world. Yes, Biden was old, yes he likely couldn’t have served another term. But he actually had a really fucking good term

Watching Prime Minister Carney discussing the breakdown of the Canada-US trade deal at a press conference and just really appreciating living in a country where the leader can speak coherently and knowledgeably about what is actually happening.

The thing about Trump is… a well functioning country would never in a million years elect a guy like him, let alone twice.. he is the sum total of our decay and degradation of standards.
