Thinking about the @lindsayellis.bsky.social video where she noted how white nationalists co-opted American history X and all these other “strong” critiques but can’t handle “Springtime for Hitler” because of how ridiculous it makes them look
I’m telling you: ridicule works. These guys are supposed to intimidate the citizenry and it’s very hard to do that when a guy in a frog suit is just staring you down and daring you to do something that makes it look like you’re afraid of a cartoon
Some people are mad at this observation but this is what happened in 2020. When Trump suddenly gained 20 million more votes, we should have had some introspection. Instead, we pretended it was an aberration that could never happen again, and we all paid for it.
I worry that winning will paper over our party’s bigger problems and slow us down from doing deeper interrogating and work necessary to build long-term sustainable power, let alone what we need in order to win in 2028. amandalitman.substack.com/p/im-worried...
It is darkly funny that Comey is Trump’s white whale when almost no one singular person has had more of an impact (when considered over the breadth of 11 years) on him being President.
Crazy I was briefing LoW and IHL six years ago like “man remember Abu Ghraib and the torture memos from OSC? Good things that couldn’t happen now! We’ve grown as a country!” 💀
People have long memories when it comes to atrocity crimes.
Few years back I asked a former USG Ukraine expert on what he expected by way of accountability for Russian atrocities:
“The Israeli model.” (Hunting down and killing the perpetrators.)

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women.

This will not be popular on here but the reason bad dems are taking bad positions on issues you like is that the media and consultants think that those issues are why Kamala lost in 2024.
To be clear, since the Apple News feed wasn’t, the “I” in question is not Rosael Torres-Davis but is very much a 45-year-old man apple.news/AH7cd2FHXR5C...

You bolt awake on the world of Erde-Tyrene. You are not online. It is 97,452 BC. You are Bornstellar Makes Eternal Lasting, and you have changed your mind. The future cannot come to pass. The cryptum will stay undisturbed.
There's a scenario in which the Supreme Court gets this case in December and three justices involved in Bush v. Gore on behalf of Bush will be asked whether confusion is grounds to reject election results.
The Trump administration is preemptively suing to block Alaska from certifying a Mary Peltola victory, should she win.
Their argument is that the double Dan Sullivan thing is confusing voters. www.reuters.com/world/trump-...
Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.
Anyway the real story is that we pay state level legislators pennies in most places so don’t be surprised when the ones that don’t come from already lucrative professions (doctors, lawyers), do shady and illegal things with their incredible powers in the legislature.
Remember when I told you that the trigger for the screaming reactionary backlash wasn’t e.g. public anger over Black Lives Matter: it was the personal terror of a bunch of rich arse-grabbers, watching Harvey Weinstein get dragged to jail unprotected by his wealth
Remember, this is the BEST POSSIBLE VERSION of the story Acton's estranged mother can give. (and the source is... telling www.operationrescue.org/ohio-health-...)
My wife simply doesn't care about the steel type used in the different knives or how to properly care for them and that's fine because her place is in the office not the kitchen.
It's pretty common for the courts to not pursue criminal charges because it's believed that making a child victim testify against a parental figure and undergo cross-examination would be even more traumatic to the child.
Also people are waking up that their relatives cause them stress and harm and that there isn’t an obligation to stay with them through thick and thin.
Of course this generation did stick by their parents who were also atrocious so they are surprised their kids can do that.
I think after today my "dumbest legal stories that actually matter" list has been updated as follows:
1. Grand conspiracy case
2. Comey seashells Instagram post case
3. East Potomac Golf Links case
hbu?

Polymarket allowed users to bet on whether any one of the 7 defendants in the Cornell rape case will be charged with a felony sex crime and the market did almost HALF A MILLION DOLLARS IN VOLUME
A family member cut another family member out of her wedding after said family member pushed the bride’s mother down a staircase during a physical altercation.
Another one.
The premise: Young people are cutting off their parents for minor mistakes and misunderstandings.
The lead anecdote: A woman severs ties with her family for refusing to get vaccinated before her wedding — to a man who *lost his mother and brother to COVID*
