America's Highway Trust Fund spends far more than it brings in in gas and truck taxes, and the US constantly bails the fund out from the federal general fund and by taking out loans. The Bay Area will pay ~$1.3B/year to bail out the fund yet again, starting in 2028. From @maxmautner.com.

I hear this from so many folks in Berkeley and Oakland, and I’m so happy they have a back up when buses are canceled. But we must improve AC Transit reliability for everyone in cities without bike share and those who can’t use it, including kids. Elect @valencia4actransit.bsky.social.

Sam Greenberg@samjgreenberg.com

had a similar experience in the east bay a few nights ago with AC Transit so unreliable, I’m relying a lot more on e-bikeshare

Went up to SEA to see Cheekface in concert + You Can See Everything with my girlfriend, Noa, before taking the Starlight home the next day. It was all my favorite things packaged into 24 hours. Gotta love Seattle.

Just to highlight how scummy the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association is (and through guilt by association the Silicon Valley Taxpayers Association) - they recommend Yes on Prop 39 Make It Harder To Vote, even though it would cost the state $100 million dollars! So much for fiscal responsibility!

Older buildings provide a lot of cheap housing, even though they aren't required to charge low rents the way subsidized affordable housing is. This often works OK, but there's risk of big rent increases when buildings change owners. Helping existing owners out, or helping nonprofits buy, can help.

AC Transit Board Policy 471: “two or more consecutive trips of the same line shall not be canceled” What’s the point of having Board Policies if they’re not followed? I have asked for a report on adherence to this policy. I will let you know when the item gets scheduled.

Now that both parts are up, here's a short 🧵on my deep dive into why American roads are a sea of SUVs and trucks – and no, it's not just "consumer demand." 🙄 First: the light truck loophole — which was closed recently! But not in a way people are celebrating ...

usa.streetsblog.orgWhy US Roads Are Full of SUVs and Trucks, Part II — Streetsblog USAYesterday, we looked at how SUVs and pick-ups captured the new car market. Today, let's talk about how they captured the used car market as well.

We have fun here! Miles really understates how much he put into making this happen — let alone flying across the country for it. (The observant viewer may catch that this was filmed the same day as the cable car speedrun — 20 hour day for us!)

It's surprisingly easy to take transit to the world's most scenic Taco Bell - although slightly harder when you're bringing along two bus's worth of people! youtu.be/6zArshlSu-k

Surprised to see so many responses here leaning toward or supporting Prop 45 *on the basis that it would make it easier to build housing in urban areas.* AB130 exempted nearly all new infill housing from CEQA last year!! It was a huge deal, and it's working! We don't need 45 to do that!
