I was having conversations with journalists just a few months ago about whether democracy was doomed. Look at this year: Orban defeated. Vukic defeated. Bolsonaro Jr defeated. Trump heading to likely defeat in midterms. That’s the beauty of democracy. Voters can respond. Don’t count it out yet.

Finding funding for a small charity is vital, difficult and time-consuming. I tried Cloudflare’s Clairic and Clef to build a weekly email of opportunities for the charity where I’m a trustee. Here’s how I set it up, and what I learned. Pretty happy with it so far. dgw.ltd/2026/10/21/w...

EXCLUSIVE: Pete Hegseth wanted Gen. Dwight Eisenhower’s globe for his office. His staff broke it. The Pentagon denied us access to take photos, but we obtained some anyway. A story in global affairs: wapo.st/3WF2YQo

And this is why I pay what’s seems to be too much for managed hosting. Pressable appeared to take down all sites for a few minutes and applied the patch.

Joined @stephruhle.bsky.social on MSNOW to talk about the AI bubble, its differences to the Dot-Com Bubble, and how if AI "doesn't work out" it's everyone's problem, with retail investors making up 20% of the market's volume and having over $4.65tn in direct exposure to AI stocks.

I'm sure it's fine that my web host that's not been down for about 4 years is now down.

shitposts aside, this one is serious, my loves: if you’re just waking up and you have any service online running PHP 5.4 to latest, you need to take it down RIGHT NOW and don’t put it back online until after it’s patched absolutely catastrophic vulnerability dropped in the middle of the night

Through experience of chairing our residents association agree, I am no fan of encouraging more cars in London, however our housing association outsourced parking to Sippi - online only - awful customer service - older residents can't call - required complex set up - payment system crashes.

People will mock this as small beer politics but predatory behaviour by parking companies has been a major source of frustration and financial cost for millions, and for many years.

Failure demand in it's finest, the housing association didn't want to manage something that creates a lot of friction and support calls (renewals, issues, visitor permits) so they just got a shit company to manage it.

And to the original point, I personally would rather spend more time in our residents meetings talking about something else, but that's not the world we live in - people care about what they care about - good politics is fixing actual issues people have day to day.

I could go on, wrong QR codes (what's a QR code some asked), a website interface built by a sadist, 'we'll get back to in 5 working days etc', threatening letters (even when a permit was valid), on and on and on. I booked a visitor permit and was told payment failed after the session had ended.

As someone that once built an iteration of Preston’s BBC Blog in 2009, I feel somewhat responsible.

Amol Rajan’s membership tiers…that is scandalous.

Close one with the fantasy prem team today. Forgot to sub off a couple of injured players. The pressure of fantasy football management.

Like I know I shouldn't take the bait but what actual use case is there for a car to flip 20 foot in the air. The everyone is 12 theory of US hegemony is complete.

It's the corporate hubris that shines through on this. When UX and Agile started to become 'a thing' in the early 2010s loads of orgs wanted it now™. But the discovery phase that took weeks felt like too much work...instead spin up a kanban board job done. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

It's no different today, study demand, study process, what's working, what's not. Give users more agency and better tools for fixing issues and delivery. Maybe AI can help with some of that, but fundamentally it's the same thing UX/Agile was aiming to help with 15+ years ago.

When Grammy-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens begins playing “Old Corn Liquor,” a traditional Black American folk tune, acclaimed Chinese pipa virtuoso Wu Man recognizes similarities to Chinese pentatonic music and spontaneously joins in. The joy on their faces says it all.
