I repeat, someone should make a meme-generator thing for those NY Times “we asked a bunch of regular/idiotic voters about their views” articles with quotes and little line drawings.

So, I love FNL. But I honestly don't know, do Texans love it too? Or is it like a view of Texas tailor-made for non-Texans?

So, what if your political opponents are actually, really nazis? I assume then it’s okay. So, really the question is whether calling one’s political opponents nazis is accurate.

"Jon Ossoff, my advice to him is, if you start calling your political opponents Nazis, maybe it's time to shut up. That's just not what we do here in this country." -- David Brooks, this evening. Remember, Brooks still gets very handsomely rewarded by the fossilized media for saying shit like this

The principles for imposing liability for AI malfeasance is pretty basic. They can be found in the Katko v. Briney ("spring gun") case and the Escola v. Coca Cola (strict product liability) concurrence. You don't actually need much else.

I think one reason it’s good to have a liberal arts education in the classic sense is that you don’t then spend time trying to invent the concept of “intellectual pursuits” from first principles

This is something that a lot of pundits and economists (but not a lot of politicians) tend to forget: The purpose of the economy is to encourage human flourishing. If some economic indicators are increasing while human happiness is decreasing, then those indicators don't mean what you think they do.

When they get back in power, Democrats need to go all-in on higher education. We need a campaign of reinvestment in public universities across the country that makes the Morrill Land-Grant Act look like nothing by comparison *and* a GI Bill of Rights-style program of tuition grants.

Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/kQdKbY1

This kind of take made a Rolling Stone writer so mad they wrote a whole piece about it.

In a world where a sizable number of my students in a U.S. law school have never seen The Simpsons, we should really just retire the idea of a monoculture.

Lich-Lord Heppner 👻@rlheppner.bsky.social

I use a lot of The Simpsons for in-class examples. I figure it’s still on TV and has been since well before my students were born. This year for the first time, a lot of students don’t seem to understand the (very basic) references.

Agreed! I saw Coyote v. ACME today too, and it was great fun. It would be a lot of fun for law students too!

Terri Gerstein@terrigerstein.bsky.social

A fun recommendation for public interest lawyers: Go see Coyote v ACME, if you haven't already. It's a delightful movie about fighting a (cartoonishly) evil monopolistic megacorporation. I was worried it would be only a kids movie and it was so much fun.

Yes, I am just publicly demanding that someone make a joke-making machine for us. But, in true BlueSky fashion, I’m also going to act like it’s a matter of principle that I won’t go do it myself using AI.

I guess that the best argument, for me, against AI is that everyone advocating it seems to be a psychopath.

ICE's new policy is unprecedented. People who have detained for months are suddenly disappearing from the locator system — even if they haven't been moved. And people newly arrested are not showing up at all, their location now hidden from view. This will severely interfere with legal access.

I’m conscious of the concerns about out-of-touch profs imposing their own pop-culture faves on the next generation. But I do think there should be some shared cultural touchstones, and I’d be quite willing to update my references if a better option existed.
