Hardly squares with the christian morality they profess to have. The lack of consideration Jenrick and his type have for anyone else's ethics or morality is staggering. Whatever happened to that basic rule of leadership, don't expect anyone to do anything you're not prepared to do yourself?

Sunder Katwala (sundersays)@sundersays.bsky.social

Robert Jenrick for Reform says that Royal Marines using "lethal force" on small boats could end it in days. "Deploy the Royal Marines into the Channel. If they need to use lethal force then they'll be able to do so. I think the problem would come to an end within a matter of days."

Putin claims NATO provoked Russia by expanding eastward. In reality, the former victims of Russian imperialism turned westward. They rushed to join NATO because they sought security against Russia. NATO does not pose a threat to Russia. NATO offers protection against Russia.

How will this country hope to halt its decline, let alone move forward, while we accept the promotion of hatred for profit? The grift isn't to protect jobs, women or children. It's to line select people's pockets, boost their egos and distract poor people who are being ripped off.

Wow. That C4 Dispatches on SYL/Robinson was DARK. I mean, the grift was always obvious, but the amounts are staggering and the treatment of that poor grooming gang victim is utterly heartbreaking. Really worth watching. www.channel4.com/programmes/t...

Yeah, that's the leader you want... so engrossed in himself that in important conversations he's given the appearance of attention while approving things he's not understood... ...or he could just be lying to everyone to protect himself.

Nigel Farage says he "wasn't listening" when plans to illegally funnel foreign money into UK politics were being discussed in his presence. Maybe he should listen to our latest pod with @peterjukes.bsky.social & @goldbergradio.bsky.social Listen: pod.fo/e/5d0e07 Watch: youtu.be/1bJLKaEW8OQ?...

It took 5 minutes to figure out this bullshit, mainstream media is still pretending it’s an organic protest group — 0 work done by anyone. Where the fuck is MI5? Scotland Yard? This should have been shut down right out of the gate.

UK man starts potential right wing terrorist group, amplified by Russian / Israeli networks, Home Office asleep at the wheel. In follow up posts the agitator states “we are not voting our way out of this” implying violent uprising.

So proud of their views, and so believing that they have popular support, they have to mask up to express those views! Views like this, behaviour like this, is as dangerous to this country as stage four cancer is to a human body. If you don't understand that, you're not paying enough attention.

BladeoftheSun@bladeofthes.bsky.social

This is apparently what it means to be 'proud and British'. You hide your identity and act like thugs.

It's impossible to overstate how amazing this was when it first aired... ...and to paraphrase from Shakespeare... "Age cannot wither them, nor custom stale their infinite variety" #TheMuppetShow

Muppet GIF of the Day@gifs-of-puppets.bsky.social

Happy 50th Anniversary to The Muppet Show! Jim Henson's groundbreaking puppet variety show began airing on the United Kingdom's ATV Network on this date in 1976 ahead of its US debut later that month.

BBC News (at least as far as politics is concerned) seems to have given up on balance and has joined the ranks of organisations dedicated to division rather than unity. They are so timid, so afraid of the anger of people who will only ever hate them, that they have given up on the rest of us.

I'm so grateful to everyone in Clacton for re-electing me. As a thankyou, we are going to abolish Personal Independence Payments, which will be fantastic for the 10,000 disabled people who live in my constituency.

So grateful is Nigel Farage to the people of Clacton for being a prop in his little ego-trip that his first response to re-election was to scrap a payment that goes to more than 10% of his working age constituents. 🙄 When will the penny drop for his 'supporters' that he doesn't care about them?

Jonathan Portes@jdportes.bsky.social

Not hard to see why Reform did not announce their plan to abolish Personal Independence Payment until *after* the by-election..

Farage is all image and perception, a triumph of vibes over substance. Standing on a stage with a satirical candidate who has taken a big chunk out of his credibility would do more damage than a parliamentary inquiry. That's his ultimate fear... becoming the punchline!

Adam Bienkov@adambienkov.bsky.social

Nigel Farage suggests the police advised him against attending the result of the Clacton by-election. Essex Police completely deny this, telling the BBC "we have a proportionate and robust policing operation to ensure the safety and security of all participants in the count"

Replying to @luketryl.bsky.social

That intensity of opposition mattered less under Starmer as the left were more divided, but if Burnham is able to unite the left and win over some Reform waverers Farage’s challenge becomes harder. It also allows Tories to make argument Reform will always be blocked and only they can win on right.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

I can’t take Andy Burnham as PM seriously. Someone democratically elected is persuaded to stand down so that he can become an MP. Not democratic imo. It’s very much taking advantage of a loop hole & obviously there were back room negotiations. And then, just like that he is PM! Madness!

Can someone do the maths, what is 20% of the value of a typical oil tanker compared to the $2 million that Iran was going to charge per ship? And so are they now literally arguing over who gets to extort the gulf states?

In politics, we’re torn between ideals and practicalities, aspirations and realities, the world as we want it, and as we find it But one day a manifesto comes along that reconciles both in every pledge. A rare moment of clarity and hope

Basically any match the USMNT wins from here on in at this World Cup will now be open to some degree of suspicion. The World Cup, and FIFA specifically, is even more tainted than it was before... and I didn't think that was possible!

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

President Trump’s reported involvement in getting Folarin Balogun back on the pitch has stirred a soccer world already deeply distrustful of FIFA, fueled concerns about political influence and cast a shadow over the U.S.-Belgium match later tonight.

But Conservative shadow home secretary Chris Philp said Labour "should be putting illegal immigrants on a plane home rather than messing around with military camps and hotels". How many more times Philp? Asylum Seekers and Illegal Immigrants are NOT the same thing!! www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I’m not a proportional representation nut but it is worth noting today that the only prime minister recently to last a full electoral term headed a two party coalition government Objectively, the first-past-the-post gives you stability and strong government argument has gone out the window

In a twist that will surprise nobody, Andy Burnham was markedly less enthusiastic about political coronations when it was the Tories indulging in them (this from when Sunak came in).

So, Carla Lockhart of the DUP thinks responsibility for Belfast violence sits with the govt approach to migration. Not people who perpetrated the violence, because she needs THEM to vote for her party. Not Ulster politicians either. Funny how "pretend politicians" always find someone ELSE to blame!
