Finally got around to Metaphor Refantazio, and really digging it so far. I think it's neat that going high fantasy gives them license to pick a number of days in the week purely (I assume) for gameplay reasons. Not a parameter they can really tweak in a Persona game.

People are always going on about how the Lord of the Rings movies still look so great today because of all the practical effects, when in fact the words "special effects" appear in the first chapter of Fellowship. (Page 27 in my copy)

Part of my literal job is to fly out to physical game studios to rescue and recover historical materials that might be endangered and put them in a permanent archive. @gamehistoryorg.bsky.social is a 501(c)3 publicly funded to do that, my DMs are open, and I'm free for the next couple weeks...

The method I use for occluding lens flares is to draw this grid of pink pixels onto the sky, draw the scene, then read back the frame buffer. Any pixels that are no longer pink, are counted and used to diminish the flare. Any pink remaining is 'repaired' by copying the pixel to the right. #gamedev

You literally (literally) have Kenney's support, indie devs. So many quality assets in the public domain. I've got a few of Kenney's sound effects in my game that I doubt I'll ever replace no matter how much fresh paint the rest of the game gets in revision because they just fit.

Kenney@kenney.nl

Don't let billionaires convince you slop is the future. They're used to managing & directing, not making things themselves. Of course they can't see the difference. They don't understand your love for the craft. Keep making personal, beautiful games. You've got my support 💖

Modern cars are basically mobile living rooms, complete with screen and recliners. To get people to focus on the road, the driver's seat should be replaced with a wobbly wooden chair that falls over if you accelerate or turn too fast. And if you look away from the road it should stab you in the leg

I have a hard time remembering people's birthdays, but I've got a great system for my dad's: There's an auto service center in my hometown that thinks my birthday is HIS birthday thanks to a car he handed down to me after I graduated, and they send me a Happy Birthday email every year.

Okay, NOW I've fixed this audio glitch. Tip for debugging sound in games: Check EVERY reference to volume in your project for whether each case calls for LINEAR volume (0.0 to 1.0) or DECIBELS. To thank me for this expert advice you can check out the game in my pinned post, lol #indiedev #gamedev

Unity literally announced the "AI makes a game for you" thing as an April fool's joke in 2012 - dunking on the creative bankruptcy of the whole concept - before announcing it with a straight face just the other day.

Think I've finally tackled a pesky audio glitch for The Amateur Deity Society's upcoming music-having version. Pesky work to retrofit proper sound handling to code and scripts that previously assumed silence. #indiedev #gamedev #adventuregames

Every day, exhausted indie devs are forced to do marketing, just to survive. But you can make a difference. Credit cards at the ready people, this is not a drill!

Buried Treasure changed my life - doubt I'd be working on game#2 if it weren't for the 'holds up against Prey' headline. A small contribution to keep a distinguished, artful and amusingly controversial (or controversially amusing?) video game writer type person in business, you'd be mad not to.

John Walker - Industry Analcyst@botherer.bsky.social

Tell me what you most want from Buried Treasure. What would make you more likely to give $2 or more a month to help the project of giving attention to unknown or under-known indie games? I know it's changed dev's lives, because they tell me so. I want that to keep happening. buried-treasure.org

Something that bugs me about the new experience mechanics is that now any Pokémon fainting *lowers the total amount of experience your team gets for every subsequent Pokémon you fight*. A Pokémon that fights and faints is now the only one that *doesn’t* get experience.

If you want a reason to take everything an LLM tells you with an enormous grain of salt, look no further than the part where they persistently appear to think that random Pokémon generator websites are an essential tool for playing Nuzlocke challenges.

Publishers, please do yourselves a favor and pay Zeboyd to make a game.
