Over 2,000 alumni from Vivek’s all-boys catholic high school in Cincinnati have signed and circulated a petition demanding that he pull the ad and issue a public apology for “ignoring the moral responsibilities” of his Jesuit education. I think he’s pretty cooked.

Micah@rincewind.run

chat I don’t think doubling down on this ad is working out real well for vivek

Hey, her time at Pepperdine Law overlapped with Ken Starr’s. Neat!

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Wow -- Hannity is moving in for the kill: "Why not just say 'I went to Pepperdine Law School and then took a different career path'? Why get into this long drawn-out thing about the difference between a lawyer and an attorney?"

I wanna quibble a bit with the premise of question 4: 'why court expansion over alternatives' suggests an either/or, but I want a whole suite of reforms But also, court expansion is the most urgent and necessary reform bc it's the clearcut constitutional way to immediately stop the bleeding

Steve Vladeck@stevevladeck.bsky.social

Calls for expanding #SCOTUS are entirely (and increasingly) understandable. But as today's "One First" explains, there are at least four difficult questions that those who support expansion should have to answer—especially as compared to other possible reforms: www.stevevladeck.com/p/bonus-257-...

I’ve said it a thousand times but Stoicism and Ayn Rand both appeal to certain politicians and technocrats because it allows for them to feel virtuous in their narcissism. Casting themselves as ambitious heroes in a “hero’s journey” is exactly why @sentantiq.bsky.social and I wrote this takedown.

lareviewofbooks.orgThe Man Behind the Myth: Should We Question the Hero’s Journey? | Los Angeles Review of BooksLARB presents the first entry in “Pasts Imperfect,” a new column that explores the impact of ancient pasts on the present.

everyone knows the most important thing about a military officer is if he has a beard which is why Grant so famously was a worse general than McClellan

Maybe I'm missing something, but I still don't get this. Schmitt was saying Smith went to a Hawks game. His evidence was texts that mention "Jack" but not from Smith (and the Hawks does not have a 109 row). Yes, Smith went to a Hawkeyes game, but Schmitt did not present any evidence of that.

In fairness, no reason the Iowa Hawkeyes would be on the radar of a senator from, um, Missouri

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

🤡 Schmitt beclowns himself 🤡 Schmitt concocted an elaborate conspiracy theory that Smith traveled to Atl for a Hawks game and to collude with Fani Willis, & flashed his "evidence" before accusing Smith of perjury. There's just one problem -- his facts were totally wrong. Here's the whole sequence:

If you think it sounds like a bad idea I have great news for you, which is that there is currently no evidence that it is supported by more than one (1) random NY assemblymember.

Totally normal, well-functioning president we got here.

The thing about actual Roman damnationes memoriarum is that they didn't really obliterate all memory of a bad emperor. None of our sources are afraid to talk about these figures. It wasn't truly about forgetting the guy, but about abolishing his (positive) public commemoration.

Andy Dimock@adimock.bsky.social

“Damnatio memoriae” sounds satisfying, especially to us Roman Empire obsessionists We should tear down every building he built But we can’t excise him from the historical record, Roman style, because he needs to be highlighted in perpetuity as the shining example of everything the Founders hated

Here’s another “Trump Says …” headline in the New York Times. Headlines like this translate to: “World’s Biggest Liar Says Something.” Not exactly news.

There's really no complicated explanation for this, or any kind of grand theory. It's just Econ 101 and he flat out does not understand it because he's an idiot.

Trump: "If we lose $50 billion a year with a country, and we say 'we're not going to trade with you anymore,' we don't lose $50 billion a year. It's very simple. Right?"

Not just whatever they’d be paid for performing, but a ton of exposure, which would translate into $$$

you accomplished something beautiful and impossible that no one can take away from you even as it's proven meaningless. there are no bigger lessons

Obviously this is a hilarious and obvious lie but it's instructive in that Trump knows he's supposed to care about this thing, and manifestly does not and cannot care about it, and so he has to put himself into the story just to make it something he can talk about. He almost died that day!

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump on 9/11: "I just thank my people. I was building a big building in New York & I took the whole crew down there right after this happened & they had no hesitation. Everybody went down with me... we thought it was coming down on top of us... two fireman lifted me up and started running with me"

And they ran straight to a phone so he could call in to Channel 9 and talk about his building.

Remember when John Kerry got swiftboated for his ACTUAL Silver Star, Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts?

Duffy sitting in the driver’s seat for 10 minutes yelling “WELL WHICH ONE IS IT?” until Rachel comes and starts the car for him.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Sean Duffy: "You know the stop/start button on your car? I hate that thing. Thank you Lee Zeldin! He's gotten rid of it and the first cars without the stop/start button are rolling off the line."

“I can’t think of a moment in the whole of my checkered 55 years when I did not know, with a certainty as absolute as gravity, that my mom loved me, and was proud of me, which is I realize a piece of huge and preposterous good fortune, a blessing of incalculable human magnitude…

I did comment on this story on my show. None of you mouthbreathers noticed, because you don’t actually consume my work or care about the issues in this story you claim to care about —you just want to find reasons to shit on another woman.

I drive past the Kennedy Center at least once a month and am inside it probably every other year and calling it “decrepit, dilapidated [and] crumbling” is just a lie (on top of the legal illiteracy Jay identifies).

Awed by this DOJ filing in the "can Trump put his name on the Kennedy Center" litigation in which the DOJ lawyer uses the phrase "conflicts of interest" to refer to, like, the fact that parties to a case have different goals. Borderline illiterate stuff. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
