This fun Onion gag is why I feel like such a madman whenever I read coal, oil or gas industry news. They're just happily, gleefully chatting away about catastrophe, in fact often celebrating more deadly energy reliance. Oil people in particular seem to have a deep sense of excitement and it's wild

Possibly the first time I've seen Anthropic publicly mention climate change and it's...arse-covering in their public filing 🫠 Also hand-wringing that they won't be able to gobble up enough fossil fuels because all the other AI and data centre companies are also trying to gobble up fossil fuels

Maximum global sea-ice extent usually occurs in early November. As of October 25th, this year's global sea-ice extent currently ranks 3rd lowest for the day, just 40,000 km² above the record daily low set in 2023. Will 2026 see a new record low maximum? Stay tuned!

Breaking News! Code: y-Axis Alert! Yesterday's Nino 3.4 preliminary sea-surface temperature anomaly set a new record high, at 3.48°C above the 1991-2020 baseline. To clearly show this anomaly, the y-axis max was raised to 4.0°C. Attention historians: this is gobsmackingly bananas.

#Birds are modern #dinosaurs 🦖 Have you ever seen a dinosaur or wild bird that does not stop laying eggs? Today, 70% of all birds / dinosaurs are in human concentration camps and most live with broken bones. We steal all their eggs and force them to never stop laying eggs, which kills them early.

Hugo@nonviolence.bsky.social

97% of hens live with broken bones - also free range organic. They lay 150-300 eggs per year instead of the natural 12 eggs. They die after 2 years instead of their natural lifespan of 12 years. This is due to: 1) Removing their eggs 2) Artificial long light (longer than 12h) 3) Inbreeding

Voting affects the policies and priorities attempted as the Earth's climate changes. No matter what the politicians promise, or what people desire, the physical consequences of what humans have already done to our planet will cause pain, suffering and death to the web of life, plant and animal alike

Rudy Sovinee@rudysovinee.bsky.social

The changes in climate to be expected ahead are huge. During ice ages, CO2 levels were typically around 180 to 300 ppm. At Earth equilibrium, that 120 ppm loss in insulation covered continents in ice. Today's greenhouse gas insulation is another 120 ppm higher - Pliocene level high.

Insects don't need insect hotels made of killed trees and killed forests. Insects need to not be killed with toxins and overgrazing. Eat plant based and organic. Insects need native plants (and all their dead leaves) and no mowing. To help nature, don't kill nature for your short-term appetites.

The UK killed 63% of all flying insects in just three years, from 2021-2024. It's not just pesticides. It's overgrazing too.
