It's the GRIEF. We haven't really come to terms with the grief of it and are in wide denial that no, really, the USA is dead. It's not "changing", it's buried. The institutions, the larger ideals, the systematic functioning of accountability. The decline was the last 30-40 years. This IS the end...

This weekend, don't forget to check out a rare 6-planet alignment shortly after sunset on Saturday, February 28. Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus will be visible from our vantage point here on Earth - although you will likely need a telescope for Uranus and Neptune. 🔭🌏 (1/2)

A tale of two movies: Similar deal structures. Similar budgets. One made $45M from 3300 screens, post pandemic, and won the weekend. The other made $41M from 3600 screens pre-pandemic, and placed second. And yet this is the coverage.

The anti-trans movement is welfare for losers.

Rodger Sherman@rodger.bsky.social

What a summary of the anti-trans movement: March 23rd: female fencer competes in mixed-gender event, beating several male competitors, finishing 8th March 30th: same fencer films herself telling trans competitor “I am refusing to fence you, because I am a woman and you are a man,” collects $5000

It always boggles my mind that I, a journalist, am expressly forbidden from trading stocks, but members of Congress, with vastly greater knowledge of market-moving news, are allowed to profit by front-running markets, and so may profit by in essence stealing from the public they represent.

You know, I think the easiest way for AI to f**k with humans and really cause major emotional damage is to automatically turn on our MUTE buttons when we think they're on. #tech

I've been wonderinf that too.

I still can’t figure out when “we can deport you” turned into “we can put you in a hell hole prison in a third country, indefinitely, with no legal recourse.”

Is this the snake eating itself?

This is big: House Republicans tucked language into the budget res “rule” that bans the House from voting to terminate Trump’s emergency declaration used to impose tariffs. TL;DR lawmakers who vote for this are officially giving up their power to revoke his tariffs until October.

Except it's not just one person. It's countless simping enablers behind him. A 5 year old could also tank everything if we gave him the power of the land. .....though, tbh, I have more faith in a 5 yrar old GIRL. Full props to 5 year old girls.

The National Park Service employs people from a wide range of backgrounds, like the great Shelton Johnson. My Uber driver this morning, a historian, was abruptly fired by the NPS last week and is struggling to make ends meet. The trump kakistocracy is destroying much of what makes America great.

I called my senators today and told them I want Cory Booker to be the senate minority leader. We can’t hold hearings. We don’t have subpoena power. We can’t pass budgets. But we CAN filibuster, and we CAN change party leadership.

Cory Booker has held the Senate floor for 17 hours and 21 minutes. The record of 24 hours and 18 minutes is held by segregationist Strom Thurmond, who spent that time protesting the Civil Rights Act of 1957. I am pretty sure Booker would not mind changing that history.

Closing rural post offices will do the same thing that closing rural schools has done: Empty out rural towns. Why? To sell off farmland for rock bottom prices to the oligarchs. Water and mineral rights and CAFOs polluting with impunity. It’s been the plan for decades.
