In the MSP space, I've found 3 organizations doing pre-built marketing packages, and this is absolutely wild to me. Like, you want to run the exact same ads and social posts as all of your competitors?

Today in looking for a job news: - My EI payment is being delayed for up to 3 weeks while they review my freelance work - My job interview for tomorrow was cancelled - A position that I had an internal referral from a former coworker with was also cancelled; they'll reassess in the new year

Guess I've got time to buy a new ring light

I was testing my setup for a 9am job interview tomorrow, and my ring light died. 🤦‍♀️ Found a small lamp that will have to do the trick, because Staples is closed now and is the only place within an hour's drive to get one.

Also, the recruiter emailed me to cancel the interview at 9:51pm and I'm not sure I like what that says about work life balance at that company.

“The power cable on the affected units may break when exposed to extreme cold weather” Like..it's a snowblower. Cold weather operation is the default. 🤦‍♀️

Fun fact: There are 443 municipalities in Ontario that are holding elections today, in addition to Toronto

Today I washed the dishes that were piling up on the only usable bit of counter space I have. * looks longingly at the dishwasher sitting in my hallway waiting for the Ikea cabinets I have yet to assemble *

"Hi, I'm calling about your septic tank installation service. I'd like to get a quote." This is why I don't answer the phone. Why did I answer the phone?

Because some Canadians don't know it's here. "Our research shows that surveillance pricing is already here. When news stories recently broke with allegations of Instacart and Delta using surveillance pricing, both firms quickly disavowed the technology-" www.policyalternatives.ca/news-researc...

I accidentally started cleaning my burnout house with @scissors.myatproto.social by doing the same chores on the same day. Yay! For catch-up day, I assembled the desk I've been procrastinating doing, so I have more room to assemble the Ikea kitchen that was delivered yesterday.

My small town is so hilariously divided between the people whose families have been here for 200 years and the newcomers. Just saw a missing cat post in the local FB group where someone started with, "I grew up here but just moved to [insert rich newcomer neighborhood]".

At a municipal candidate forum recently, a local grilled a mayoral candidate on his genealogy and "how long have you lived here full time" because he went to university in the US 25 years ago lmao These people are insane.

Spent my Saturday evening writing a business plan for an app that would not only solve a problem I currently have, not to mention hundreds of thousands of others in Canada, but could potentially mean I wouldn't need a full-time job anymore. Now someone give me a grant to go build it, pls.

This is an amazingly helpful thread. I didn't know you could freeze Bok Choy! In my state of burnout, I've been relying too much on Daiya pizzas and GF bread, and it's all just too damn expensive now that I'm not working.

Last week I realized that Schar bread was NINE NINETY NINE A LOAF. And that's only like 12 tiny slices. I don't know when the price went up again. So anyway, I'm not eating bread anymore. But now I need easy-to-prep food that I don't have to think about, but that's also cheap AF.

All I hear is, "put poor people in tall buildings that act as a sound barrier between the noisy road and my quiet single family neighborhood"

My one (1) modicum of sympathy to Alberta's grievances is that Quebec actually does get away with stuff that we would never allow another province to try.

Me this morning: oh, looks like a light day for my freelance gig. Maybe an hour or so. Me at 5:30 after I haven't moved from my chair all day: *sobs*

My mechanic last week: do you want to put your snow tires on yet? Today: sitting outside in a t-shirt while my cousin's kids swim in the lake.

My cousin, who runs a canoe rental business, thinks he's an expert on all the jobs that data centers will produce. Because Kevin O'Leary said so. My opinion, as someone who worked in tech, was married to an IT guy, who has physically been inside data centers and

The two-day weekend wasn't a gift from Henry Ford. Workers fought for it. CBC Radio explores its 100-year history and the movement toward four-day weeks with full pay. If we redesigned working life today, what would you change first?

Family rented a cottage for the weekend. There's 7 adults and 3 kids here. And 7 cars, despite the fact that 5 of the adults live within 10 minutes of each other (two actually live together and drove separately).

You can successfully log-in to the OLG app again, if you were trying earlier like me.

"The company wants customers to provide written proof that they went through second-level support before the CCTS will accept their case." Cool, except if you're doing this over the phone, the carrier is the only one who has proof. So effectively no one will be able to complain to the CCTS.

When I was having issues with Rogers, I did it all by chat so I'd have the transcript, but they repeatedly refused to escalate me to second level support via chat - phone was the only option.

As we've learned over and over, Ontario is not the place a lot of people think it is.

I like how none of the officials/police there seem to care that the crew is violating their work permit restrictions that the work can only happen after 6 pm. Province can just break the rules when it feels like it.

The fact that "local" police basically don't answer to any elected level of government at all is actually something someone should do something about, but is not unique to today's context.

A company I applied for a job with a few weeks ago just eliminated 250 roles, including open reqs lol. Guess I won't be hearing back from them!

One of the biggest complaints I have about my house is how many screws the previous owners stripped in all their shitty DIYs. My door installers are having similar complaints today. 😂
