Kinda becoming a believer in the Housing Theory of Everything
Okay, I made a chart, it's every month since 1977. The blue line is how many people are citing high prices as a reason for worse finances in the U Mich consumer survey. The orange line is the annualized change in CPI. Do you see how the very close correlation MASSIVELY BREAKS DOWN in 2022?
Remember when US played Iran during the 2022 World Cup. Iranian journalists asked the US coach about aircraft carrier positions outside the gulf and everyone just shrugged?
The UK government called on FIFA to investigate whether Argentina breached its rules, after players celebrated their World Cup semifinal victory over England with a fan’s banner which read the “Falklands are Argentinian.” Read more: bloom.bg/4ywGDDl 📷: Paul Ellis / AVP via Getty Images

I wrote about the One Weird Trick That Will Save the USMNT. And no, it has nothing to do with "pay to play": www.espn.com/soccer/story...
Ok, Norway then needs to explain why their womens team sucks
I have seen four or five columns trying to claim that Norway’s innovative youth sports approach is responsible for their World Cup success. And it is one of the truly least ball knowing arguments you can make. Tellingly not one being made by anybody who paid attention to soccer before this month.

"Build academies like they do abroad!" Where they make mincemeat of thousands of human lives to produce a few good soccer players? The American system needs work, but copying global practices cannot be the solution. Also in here: thinkoutsidetheball.substack.com/p/world-cup-...

you cannot possibly believe that by playing in a world cup game he will instantly become just as corrupt as this administration and fifa. there's no way you believe this. i don't even know you but i believe your brain knows enough numbers between 0 and 100 to know that isn't true.
But if the player takes advantage of the corruption and plays in a game he knows he shouldn’t be playing in, he becomes as corrupt as the rest of them.

FIFA really set a precedent when they suspended Ronaldo’s red card
From @theathleticfc.bsky.social: Folarin Balogun will be available to play the USMNT’s round of 16 match against Belgium with his one-game red-card ban suspended. Multiple FIFA officials previously said that a team cannot appeal a red card or suspension. nyti.ms/4vJ2Ls7

A DHS social media post celebrating the USMNT overlooked the central truth of this World Cup: the game’s greatest tournament is powered by migration, not borders
