Could be boon to…people needing homes

California local governments must quickly approve legally submitted applications to build accessory dwelling units, a state appeals court ruled in a victory for advocates of more housing.

Every big paper has run a story like this in recent years. Why nothing changes: “The state can’t add more crosswalks, reduce the number of lanes or lower the speed limit on Union Avenue, all of which would take time and money,“ said the state DOT, which owns the road. 🔓: www.wsj.com/us-news/the-...

Listen to my new song! I re-recorded the Johnny Cash song “I’ve Been Everywhere,” and replaced EVERY city with a city or village from Nebraska. That’s really me singing on the track. Real Nebraska musicians recorded this too. No AI-generated music here. 👍

Rode through here a few weeks ago...and I didn't mind it. Traffic calming for bikes. Understand that we don't want anyone and everyone deciding what should be in the bike lane but maybe DOT could work with the school to to slow things down during busy times

NYC is about to spend billions on outdated, unnecessary car infrastructure. With the right vision, alternatives are possible. Speak up and tell local officials you want them to go back to the drawing board on the BQE at these events hosted by @nyc-dot.bsky.social:

More than 1.5 million kids were missed in the last U.S. census. The undercount was 2.1% for children <18, and 5.4% for those <5, the highest rate of any age group. Now the Census Bureau is proposing major changes to 2030 Census rules that could make some children even harder to count.

The Mayor was asked about this, so rambled on about "not ticketing, but behavioral change" Yes, change their fucking behavior! It's called towing & ticketing

The mayor gave very few specifics on any of the key initiatives—and could not explain why the NYPD has all but stopped ticketing drivers. hellgatenyc.com/mamdanis-vis...

It's rural areas, not big cities, that most need AVs. "How do you push [robotaxi] companies to get into the places where society would value their presence? As opposed to Lower Manhattan, which is very lucrative for a Waymo or Zoox but would be a disaster if that becomes a dominant way to travel."

The deep SNAP cuts enacted last year have harmful ripple effects for low-income families & the broader community. Kids losing SNAP also lose automatic enrollment for free meals at school. As more kids lose SNAP, schools may be forced to drop Community Eligibility & end free meals for all students.

Great reporting on families with kids — many of whom are still eligible for SNAP — who have nonetheless lost the help they need to afford groceries. Now, they're facing impossible decisions when buying food means a utility bill goes unpaid or a broken car engine can't get fixed.

It's always shocking to me how many people are apparently blackpilled on pedestrian call buttons, believing that they do nothing. I've come upon a group of 5 people all standing at a crosswalk and no one has pushed the button. Folks, most lights won't give you a walk phase unless you push it!
